Bad Doc leads to 2 years on benzos

Hi all

In September 2015  I was prescribed .25mg of xanax as needed by my doctor in order to deal with anxiety attacks. He told me that i could take it as needed and that the dose was so small that I could not become dependent 😂

Well after my last exam in 2015 I was up to .25mg 3x/day. I thought that since the source of my stress, was gone I could C/T. That went over like a fart in church. After 2 days passed I felt like I was dying and called the EMT's. They told me nothing was wrong except I hadn't taken my xanax.

I found myself reinstated on .25mg now 4x/day. I was chemically dependent and even had interdose withdrawals. I found this website and the ashton method, switched docs, and began a valium taper at beginning 2017. After being on the equivalent of 20mg of valium daily I am happy to say that I am now down to .2 mg of valium 3x/day and getting ready to jump within the next 2 weeks. I would like to share my story and taper more in depth with you all to help motivate and encourage those beginning their taper, and one day share my healing/success story.

Hello Almostdone,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies and congratulations on doing so well on your taper thus far! You are getting very close to being benzo free, how are you feeling now?

Many of us found ourselves in the same situation as yourself, being assured that the low dose would not present problems in terms of stopping the medication and reaching tolerance, where the initial dose is no longer effective.  I'm so happy you found the forum and have decided to join, BB was my lifeline during the most challenging time of my life.

Although you are very familiar with the Ashton Manual, having used it for your taper, I'll provide a link for you for easy access. As you must know, it is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

I'll also give you a link to the Withdrawal Support Board (during your taper) so you can post and receive feedback from members.

We do indeed look forward to reading your Success Story one day.  While benzo withdrawal is a difficult process for some of us, in my opinion, it's well worth the effort.  Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
