anyone tried accupuncture for sleep

Called a local accupuncturist about helping with sleep. She said folks on pain meds & benzos don't have much success until they are off of them. Has anyone -after quitting them- had any luck in using accupuncture to help with sleep?

I currently take 1mg lorazepam 3-4 times a day.  Looking to start withdrawal.  Asking for future reference.

I tried about 10 sessions of acupuncture right after I got off of Ambien when the severe insomnia started, but it did nothing for me. My nervous system was so amped up from the withdrawal that I could not tolerate being alone in the room with all of those needles in me. I had to ask to keep the door open. If it did anything at all for my sleep, I was not aware of it.

You may still want to try it, but it is my opinion that you will be wasting your time and money on acupuncture.

I tried it several times at the end of my first year. One time I got super agitated and revved so she changed where she put the needles. The next two times were sort of relaxing while I was on the table, but no effect on sleep. The combination of exercise and meditation/relaxation exercises/hypnosis on youtube helped keep me (relatively) sane through very little sleep. Start building up skills and resources now. You may also find that it isn't as bad as you fear. Good luck!

Tried it myself about ten sessions. Didn't do anything but empty my wallet.

I too gave it a go. 2-3 months at twice a week. No positive results but I was really in a bad way during this time. Was in Z drug tolerance and then CT off them so in a very agitated state

i tried it as well - i think it depends on where you are in WD.  the first few weeks it seemed to help and then the next few weeks it had a paradoxical effect and caused agitation.  acupuncture releases a lot of stored toxins in the body - so - that is the last thing one needs in WD  - unless your liver and other organs of elimination are in superior condition perhaps.  i think in opioid addiction it seems to work a bit differently than meds that work on GABA...... i spent a small fortune and realized I would have been better saving my money to cover living expenses..... but I know in the beginning i wanted to try just about anything to bring relief.  after 6 weeks i resigned myself to the fact that all my good intentions to bring relief almost always caused set backs and that i just needed to go through the healing process and accept time is the biggest factor..... tough pill to swallow but its brought me some peace...

Same with me. Tried several sessions at the beginning of my withdrawal and did not help my sleep.  Acceptance and going through the process naturally and staying off the meds I s what I am doing to help me heal. TIME is the biggest factor of HEALING!

Blessings!
