I was prescribed clonazepam in crisis in 2013. I've taken it consistently since; first at a half a milligram, then upped to one milligram in 2015. I left my job as program coordinator at a peer support agency in July after weeks of exhaustion, vertigo and body pain. I've tested ANA positive with homogenous pattern for possible autoimmune condition. Though it's no longer the way I refer to myself, I've a long history of manic depression and crippling anxiety. I am currently in a quiet place in the mountains and tapering from my clonazepam regimen. I've worked down to a half milligram over the last month. It's been difficult to discern withdrawal from other body issues. What I assume to be related to withdrawing: hyperacusis, difficulty with sleep, periods of intense sadness and uncontrollable sobbing. The times I feel sad have been easier to manage. I am not a stranger to these states, there's comfort for me in emotional response. I am without support local, so am looking to online peer groups for help.

Hi snarequibble  Welcome to Benzobuddies

You've come to the right place for support, well done on your decision to taper of these drugs, We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process. Withdrawal can be very challenging, symptoms can be relentless but its temporary, it does get better.  Tapering off slow can help to minimize withdrawal effects.

It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for your own comfort.  Are you familiar with the  Ashton Manual , it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal/tapering.
