need advice on 3 to 5 day medical detox from xanax

hey, I'm new and need some advice. I'm supposed to call and try and get a bed tomorrow for a 3 to 5 day detox center. I've said to them I'm on 3 mgs of Xanax, and it was about 15 mgs 2 weeks ago. has anyone been to a place lile this, can you share your story? Im leavinf behind by baby and my husband, and I've never been away from them. I don't want this to be a waste of my time, I want to go in and be home in under 5 days, clean. I'm worried now that it's not safe to do in that amount of time, even in a medical setting. I have to do this, and get clean, in order for me to get into out patient tb

therapy starting next tuesday, and back to work by Wednesday. someone out there has to have been thro a quick detox clinic that will be able to offer advice. I'm at a loss, and I'm worried they won't be able to help me, even tho they know this is what I'm on.

Hello, nouba84. Welcome to Benzo Buddies! We're glad to have you here.

I feel I must strongly caution you that nearly every report I have read of a person going to benzodiazepine rehab has been a severely negative one. Please do not rush into this. Investigate this carefully before considering it. I have never heard of a successful, short detox off of Xanax, and I, too, would be concerned about the safety of it. I suggest you read and ask questions on the following boards as a good starting place:

Cold Turkey, Detox, & Rapid Withdrawal

General Taper Plans

Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

You can locate our other boards with many more resources from our home page: BenzoBuddies Community Forum.

You will find stickies in bold pinned at the top of the boards. These threads contain information that our members have found to be particularly helpful. Feel free to start your own thread on the relevant board and ask any questions you may have about withdrawal and recovery. Just click on the board name and then click New Topic.

Best wishes on your journey to health and healing. May it be a careful, thoughtful, and successful journey.

You might want to check in with one of the moderators here on Benzo Buddies  Carol Jean as she did a rapid inpatient detox off xanax over a year ago and is still struggling..think she regrets going that route. She might be able to offer you some insight.

Hi Nouba,

And welcome.  There is lots of information on this site and it is about going slowly when you're -- we're, I'm tapering off the same med-- are getting off Xanax.  Medical Detoxes tend to promise miracle cures but are not around for the months that the taper may take.

Please read some of the posts and listen to Gard about this option.  It's not advised around here for good reason.

There is lots of support on this forum however, so you don't need to feel like you'll  be doing this on your own.

Haven't heard from you in a few days, nouba84. Hope you're doing OK. No matter what course you choose to get off benzos, please know you are welcome to come here for support.

Please I hope you didn't go through with this-cold turkey isn't advised.  I did not go to a detox and I won't.  The only thing they will do is you RX to prevent a seizure.  And thinking you will be able to go back to work-that's a bit of a stretch.  Xanax is short acting-so by the time you go back to work you could be in terrible withdrawal. How will you take care of your baby then?  There are other places to get therapy-you may have to just look around.  (Maybe you aren't in the US and it is different where you are).

I'm sorry if I was short or abrupt; but this isn't advisable.  Please reconsider your options.

Wishing you peace, healing and recovery.
