Hi everyone, I successfully tapered off of .25 mg of Klonopin for insomnia seven years ago. I had been on it for 15 years and took at least a year to taper without a problem. Then in December 2016, I had cataract surgery and took 5 mg of Valium the night before the surgery, 5 mg the morning of the surgery, and was given Versed for the surgery.  I had a horrific response to the Versed several hours after the surgery, and emotional pain like I've never felt.  since then I've been cycling in and out of waves and windows, mostly windows fortunately that last for weeks at a time. What worries me is I have now hit the eight month mark, and I'm having a longer and more difficult wave than I've had in a very long time. I know everyone says not to worry about how long it takes ...  that everyone is different… That healing is not linear… But I still worry because my symptoms are so much worse than they've been in a long time! The worst is the depression, but I'm also forgetting lots of stuff, feeling mentally foggy on and off, even new twitches in my eye... I am by nature a hopeful and resilient person, the hopelessness is so hard to take. Just looking for general support and encouragement, thank you so very much.

I have been through withdrawal multiple times now. Each time worse and longer than the last. I understand now that I will never be able to take them again because it stirs up the withdrawal symptoms all over again. I have added benzos to my allergy list just to be safe. The depression and hopelessness are excruciating. People keep telling me it will pass and it's impossible for me to believe it at this time. I'm realizing I'm the worst person to be giving encouragement and reassurance!  You are not alone in how you are feeling. I hope this passes for you soon.

Hello Gutsy,

It can take many of us a year or more to completely heal.  There are ups and downs, which can be extreme, but eventually these even out and things do return to normal.

It would really help if you'd create a signature with your medication dates and history.  To do this, Click on 'Profile' then 'Account Settings', Then 'Modify Profile', in the drop-down list click 'Forum Profile'. From that page, scroll down almost to the bottom and type in your info in the Signature box. Make sure and click 'Change Profile' at the bottom. And that's it!
