dry nose, air hunger - worse when nose is open??

I'm trying to help my husband get through withdrawal, and he thinks he is the only one with this particular symptom, which to him, means that he must have something other than a withdrawal problem. If anyone else has experienced something similar, it would go a long way in reassuring him.

His nose has been dry for a couple months now. Dry congested, skin flaking off, etc. He uses coconut oil to help, but it hasn't healed yet. He also has air hunger, feeling like he can't breathe all the way down into his chest. The oddest thing for him is that when his nose opens up more, he says the feeling of not being able to breathe intensifies, like he isn't getting enough air through his nose. When his nose gets a little congested again, like some allergies or inflammation that comes and goes, then he breathes a little bit better.

I'm convinced it's a nervous system problem due to some other issues he has, and not a physical problem with his nose, but he really needs to hear from another BB who has experienced this.

I have had a dry nose-yo the point of some bleeding since 3 months into withdrawal.  I used saline mist-then my doctor told me to use bacitracin .  I continue to have the dry nose-apparently this detox drys out your system-wish I understood why.  Other people say they drink as much water as they can.  Isince I am not at the gym like I was before this adventure, my water consumption is down-perhaps that accounts for the dryness.  I should also mention it isn't just my nose it is my skin in general.  Don't fret-it's part of the adventure package.  Wishing you the best.

Yes. All normal. I went through the exact same stuff you're describing your husband is going through, even the air hunger thing! I used to think something's wrong with my lungs because I used to smoke cigerattes that's why I can't breath deeply, but it turned out that it was all mental, none of that was real and nothing was wrong with my lungs!

I'm now at 16 months out and my dry nose and shallow breathing has improved up to you can say 75% so tell your husband to be rest assured that he will most probably improve and nothing to worry about, although I understand it's hard for him rest

Thanks BenzoCalamity and Iwishiknew . Health anxiety, especially related to breathing, has always been a thing for him, so these nose problems have been especially hard. Did you notice it getting worse when your nose was more open too?

Absolutely.  I do remember having what I thought was a cold and being unable to breathe-and yes the dryness wasn't as bad.  In an odd way, it makes sense.  I still have the nose dryness and overall skin dryness and I'm 8 months in on my taper.  Don't worry-it's normal.

For the last few months, I have had terrific trouble with a stuffy nose.  It has been that bad that I have to use decongestant nose drops a couple of times a day.  My nostrils just get completely blocked up.  I am looking upon it as one of those odd things that comes and (hopefully) goes - like I had terrible gastic reflux for a few months post taper.

I too would be interested if anyone else has had a stuffed up nose - as if you are getting over a cold but goes on for months.
