Why benzos were prescript?

Hi, I'd like to why your doc prescript benzos to you in the first place and are the symptom(s) or original reason coming back now when you are tapering?

In my case benzos (klonopin) was prescript due to my anxiety related shaking and muscle cramps. Cramps haven't come back during my taper but I shake a little bit now when I have almost finished my taper and son't know if it is orginal couse or w/d symptom. I think this is intresting information as it tells at least somehow if I can really jump or should I take drug little bit longer in order to get rid off of the the symptoms I had in a first place.

I started on 1 mg per day due to vertigo from Meniere's Disease back around 2005.  Over a period of 10 years, my dose increased to 7.5 mgs per day (2.5 mgs, 3x daily). I hit 'tolerance withdrawal' last year, and my doctor and I talked about my slowly tapering off because she didn't want me to go any higher on the dose. Thankfully I have a good doctor. I've tried 2 other times to taper since 2016, but gave up until January of this year.  I'm almost halfway there, and I have support here at home, so I'm going to keep tapering, even though sometimes I feel like throwing in the towel.

Situational anxiety that could have been treated by therapy of just finding a less stressful job.

I grew up in Australia's superficial city when/where appearance and reputation were everything, all silicon and steroids.

Started using veterinarian grade anabolic steroids at the age of 15 (at very high doses). One night at the age of 18 I woke in the middle of the night and went into extreme manic psychosis - sprinted about 3km (≈ 2mi) to the closest 24hr clinic, slamming my palms on the receptionist's table I demanded that they "give me some shit!".

Skipping the line they took me in; blood pressure was through the roof so the doctor stuck a needle into my bloated vein. Diazepam!

I walked outside the clinic peacefully and everything was sparkling; life was beautiful - I'd met my first and only love.

After that it was so easy to obtain a prescription (with repeats) from any doctor for Valium and Xanax. They were simply too frightened to refuse my demands. I called them "the breakfast of champions", o how wrong I was...

14 years later I'm still in a damaging, committed relationship with her evil sister; Nitrazepam.

Bless all of you beautiful people; although we come from all corners of the earth we are like a family who share each others pain.
