Hi I'm kristin and I found this by way of you tube.  I've been on 2 mg if klonopin for 1 1/2 years roundabout.  Desperate to quit this drug that was started for anxiety at work:( I am now not working but staying at home to taper due to my line of work and anxiety from being a caregiver.  Would like support.  Went down to 1.75 mg and plan to continue for 2 weeks.  My Dr has said to "just quit".  This method scares me and it's really badly uncomfortable too.  Depression and cognitive decline is what makes me want to get off this.  What am I in for?  Scary but hopeful that there is support and I'll be a better me and a better mother for my two teen daughters.  I'm just here is how I feel.  Want this so badly.  I cannot remember what normal anxiety feels like anymore.

Hi Kirstin

Welcome to Benzobuddies!  You will receive plenty of support here.  I gave up my job, I couldn’t function, I wasn’t living, I merely existed.  Withdrawal is tough, but worth it, you will come through this, it does get better.  Benzodiazepines need to be tapered slowly,  a gradual taper of 5-10% every 10-14 days is generally recommended.

Are you familiar with the Ashton Manual, a great source of information about these types of medications and how to withdraw.  The manual explains how the benzos affect the body and also lists common symptoms that are caused by withdrawal or reduction .

Withdrawal can be very challenging, I found  being amongst people who understand helps enormously.  We have a great community here, our members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, and will share their experiences with you.

Here are a couple links to information on tapering and also withdrawal support while tapering.

Hi Kristin, Do you think that the anxiety from work set something in motion in your brain that just can't be stopped? I think my sleep problems started with workstress, but now the workstress is gone (still work there but no more stress), but still no sleep to return.

Hi Kristin,

Welcome to BB.  I think you are right, tapering instead of just quitting is the way to go!  There are so many things to learn from this forum I've discovered.  And tapering very slowly is one of them.  That's what I'm trying to do despite my impatience!

My best to to you.
