I have become really aware of a pulse in my stomach. It is accompanied by a sort of fluttery feeling that I feel the need to rub to relieve the uncomfortable feeling. It is hard to explain but can anyone relate to this? Did the feeling pass?

Thanks

Liz

Hi Liz,

A strong pulse is something that is pretty constant for me.  I can see it in my neck and stomach, feel it in my fingertips and the back of my head when laying down.  It was very bothersome at first, but I've gotten used to it and I try not to pay much attention to it.  Seems logical that a compromised nervous system would cause irregularities such as these.  I'm confident mine will go away with time and yours as well.

All the best,

MDL

I had a big setback earlier this year, during which I started feeling my pulse way stronger in my stomach and in my head. So yes, such things can happen in withdrawal.

Hi Liz

Oh great post.  I get this and its so freaky I tell myself it was nothing and try to forget it really quickly. So when I read this I felt like id forgotten about this but YES i get this occasionally, in moments of panic, with loud thumping sounds like bass in my chest and feeling like my BP went sky high. I could actually see the vibration waves through my abdomen. Good to know am not alone and this is symptom of WD.

Mine is usually quick nowadays in a wave but was fairly constant during acute

Hope this helped,

I would get this pulse in your stomach checked out by a medical person.  A friend of mine had it, and she had an aortic aneurysm, which is a serious condition that needed surgery.  I don't say this to worry you, probably yours is nothing, but when you said stomach pulse it rang alarm bells for me.

Hi,

During my taper and for several months in the beginning of my withdrawal, I would feel my pulse in many places on my body where I had never felt it before.

For example, I'd feel it in my thighs, my finger tips, my shins, and forearms.

I never bothered to talk about it with a doctor, as I guess, by then, I realized it made no sense to discuss strange benzo w/d sensations with them.

I had real high blood pressure during most of those times, and the pulse sensations would randomly appear without rhyme or reason.

About 4 months after I jumped, I sensed my heart had "calmed down", and I began to exercise like crazy.  I kept it up, no matter how I felt, and slowly my circulatory system began to become more stable.

Now, at 17 months off, my heart beat is great, my blood pressure is very healthy, and I am SO glad I steadily kept refusing "more meds" from my doctor.

In my experience, it passed, and wasn't any more of a problem than anything else we see in symptoms of withdrawal from benzos.

Acceptance of "strange" feelings has helped me immensely in this ordeal.

I treated many weird feelings with over the counter products when they became too uncomfortable to deal with on my own.  For example, severe pain and discomfort (headaches, sinus issues, body aches), I would take some advil.  The first time I experienced "air hunger" I got some "primatine mist tablets" and they worked wonders.. Sore muscles and joints, I'd take a bath, stretch, use "Ben Gay" and take advil, or use ice if necessary..

It is true, that for a long time, I couldn't think well enough to help myself.  I know that to be true, even if it makes no sense to me now.. I think we need to begin our self care with baby steps, some discipline, blind faith, exposure therapy, and then we can grow from there..

Good luck, and I hope you and all of us here, heal quickly, and then work in whatever ways we can to help the benzo situation in our respective countries.

Eric

Kes,

Thanks for the words of caution.  To your point, it is always a good idea to get things checked out.  However, the common denominator among members is that we are all withdrawing from benzos.  I'd place my money on withdrawal.

I wonder if this is something like the inner vibration feeling I get?  I can get it anywhere, but mostly it is solar plexus/stomach and sometimes down legs to feet, even.

It is like a cell phone on 'vibrate'... but I can see how it could be called fluttery as well...

Hi Barbara

Yes it is just like that! So difficult to really describe - fluttery. - yes, vibration - yes!

So annoying! It comes and goes. I think I am more aware of it when I am sitting.

Do you, or anyone have any idea what could be causing it? Does anything help to take the feeling away?

Could it be the vagus nerve in overdrive?

Thanks

Liz

Liz,

I am so happy to read this thread.  I don't like that we are all suffering with this pulsing, but it is a relief to know I am not alone.

I am 33 months out and this has been with me since the day after I jumped.  It has decreased in intensity quite a lot, but it's still here.

FINALLY

I have been trying to figure this out for months.  Mine started under the rib area and was just a quick flutter sensation.  Now it happens in my back and butt.  I wonder too what brings it on-I thought it was muscles twitching like my eye.  Sometimes I get many in succession-when this happens I take Motrin and it seems to help.

That was my first physical clue that something was amiss.  The start of my tolerance withdrawal.  Went to Dr. and they ran every diagnostic and imaging available and of course.....found nothing.  Always good to get it checked but more than likely....withdrawal.  When the body heals it's components parts will require blood and the oxygen therein.  The heart will increase in BP and pulse to get it there.

It could be that because a lot of your gaba receptors are located in your abdomen area, and it's usually the last place your symptoms stop

Is the pulsing mostly on the left?  Mine is.  The abdominal aorta lies a bit to the left of midline in the midsection of the body and the aorta comes out of the upper left side of the heart.  They're arteries and under alot more pressure than the veins.  I'm sure that's why my left side is so messed up.

Yes I would say more to the left.

Mine is right in the center... and it is also kind of an 'inner vibration' sometimes... that is there and my legs, mostly.

Anybody have that?
