Nobody has been on the dose I was prescribed (not good for me)

I was prescribed more than 20mg of Xanax at one point 25 years ago. My psychiatrist had this idea that every time I had a panic attack it set my "recovery" back by one year. Every month I would see him and he asked if I had a panic attack I'd answer him honestly that I'd had one or two. He kept adding 1-2 mg of Xanax for me. People didn't have the information about benzos back then so I blindly followed what this quack told me. I've had several psychiatrists since then and they have reduced my dose. Then I get to my current doctor who just decided to cut me off with a 10 day taper after 27 years of this stuff.

I hear you. I was drugged by a quack who keep raising doses of 2 antidepressants when i wasn't even depressed to maximum levels which was making me feel so wired, agitated and incredibly sick. Then he told me to take Klonopin twice a day. I suffered so much on these drugs for years not knowing it was the drugs as he was brainwashing me it was my so called "illness". Thanks to the internet i found the truth and got off. Just like you i was drugged in 1991 and there was no information those years. I got burned as well by these charlatans.

Then you need to quickly connect with a different doc/provider.  Almost any med professional will know you cannot do 10 day taper off of 25 years and 20mg xanax.

Wow your progress is amazing from that amount of Xanax. I had the same thoughts this morning as Im coming of 4mg Klonopin; hardly the amount of Xanax you quack prescribed, but a pretty high dose of Klonopin when I see other's stats. I read other stats and get so depressed on how long this is taking and that I may have so long to go.

 

Ok I'm rereading your post and I think I misunderstood. You have to taper 20mg in 10 days! Omg no! Find a new Dr. ASAP. That is just malpractice and not safe at all. It's imperative you find someone new to help you taper the right way.

It took years to get from 20+mg Xanax down to 4mg/ Klonopin. Now I had to updose to 1.5mg klonopin from .5mg. I actually tried to make the jump at .5mg 2 weeks ago but failed. I have to do it fast as my doctor cut me off. My supply is running low so there's not enough to slowly taper. Doctors have been quacks for prescribing too much and then they are quacks forcing me to quit so fast.

Matt, maybe I missed something but how are you doing today?  It's too bad your doc thought the rapid taper was good!  Hope you found another doc by now.  Let us know.
