Synthroid no longer needed?

I am writing for my wife who is unable to do so. She is 2 weeks from being benzo free for 14 months since c/t at a detox joint. Still suffers terribly. This post is about thyroid hormones. Before being rx benzos in 1996, my wife had no thyroid problems. A few years into it she was diagnosed with hypothyroid and given synthroid. The dose varied over the years but she took it for roughly 15 years. Recently just months before detox cytomel was added. Well 3 months ago she told me she had enough of taking these two drugs and stopped both of them. She has been so sick with benzo wd she said the thyroid drugs were exciting her every day, so she quit. Last week she had blood drawn for the first time in a year where the dr checked her thyroid. The test revealed that here level fell in the optimal range. Haven't talked with dr yet, but we are hoping she is finished with those two rx's. Maybe that explains how she gained 100 lbs while on benzos and other drugs and in the last 18 months lost almost 100 pounds. Waiting to here from the dr. He was on vacation this week. It's strange. We have learned so much in the last 14 months about what benzos can do to a persons body, we don't really feel like we need his opinion. He doesn't believe her symptoms anyway but we needed him to order the blood work.
