A week ago today I had 100 percent clearance. Over the next two days headache increased, and tinnitus increased to a level I've never experienced before. Today I am broken, weak, scared of this new set of goodies. It almost feels like the flu with a foul mood. Anyone have a shift like this and recover. I'm sure it will go away, but it's scary to enter a downward spiral. Anyone?

Bernerd, What you're going through is normal and part of the process. In WD you will have days where you feel pretty good and then take a nose dive in sxs. That's normal and no reason for alarm.

Accept the fact that your sxs will get better and get worse continually as you go through this process of WD. They're going to be up and then down, its normal. There's nothing to fear about that. Don't make the mistake of fearing new or increased sxs, that only makes it worse. Just ride the storm out.

Understand that this is the process of WD from benzos. You can't change it. Don't fight your sxs. Go with them. Its really, really important that you learn to just cope with your sxs, even if they increase. This is just a big waiting game, waiting for the sxs to ease up and the brain to heal.

What we focus on and give our attention to will dominate our lives. Try not to focus on your sxs. Accept them and go past them and focus on your future, getting better, the things you're gonna do when you recover. Look to the future. WD is so consuming to our minds, it is critical to focus on work, hobbies, house chores, running errands, working toward normalising our lives again, etc.

Even when your sxs get worse remember that your brain is still healing and that you are well on your way to recovery.

Bernard - I get waves like that too- you summed it up well when you said flu with a bad mood. I have just been trying to learn to accept these waves as they come- know they will pass and hoping that someday when I am completely  healed there will be no more waves. Some days that is easier said than done. It is easy to get discouraged by them.  Hang in there!

Hey Bernard,

Sorry to hear you got hit with a bad wave. This non-linear recovery is hard to take as it defies any sort of logic.

I started keeping a symptoms journal every night so when those days come when the "bad mood" and raft of awful symptoms hit I honestly cannot even imagine getting better and I can't remember that I ever had a window - then I force myself to look back through my symptoms journal just to remind myself there are good days and often.

This too shall pass - hang in there. You will recover fully.

Distract yourself and be kind to yourself.
