Help with titration and no sympathy for this devil!

Hello, I'm a newbie and I need support. I have been on 1mg. Klonapin for 20 years. I switched Drs 3 yrs ago and my dose changed to 2mg. I noticed spasms last two years and severe headaches along with vague autoimmune diseases which when tested were negative for all. I felt toxic and realized the med I was taking was doing damage to me and of course my brain. I asked my Dr. to help me to titrate down and she agreed but I found out soon she had me coming off it quickly although I explained it could take years. I could do a great rant here but...

So I at this point I was at 1.25 mg which I know was too fast in 4 months. Last titration I went down to 1.012.5 mg and after a week had a seizure and was scared out of my mind.  All the other tapers I only felt some spasms and flu like symptoms. I also had many head rushes before the seizure.

I know I have to go slower and have one Dr. who will help and another that I see in a few weeks that I was referred  to after my ER visit.  He is a Neuro.

I've read the info and watched countless videos on liquid titration.

My big question is:  I am scared to titrate again

and have a very stressful month ahead so am holding until that stress is gone but I am thinking 10% is too much and perhaps I should do a 5% percent reduction next time.  Hence the seizure before and generally ill through out my body.

And I am terrible at math now since my brain had been reduced to a 5 year olds. No, that's unfair to all 5 year olds.

I was precribed this med for Fibromyalgia and all the symptoms that ensue. I was having body zaps,  muscle spasms and anxiety but not intense anxiety. It has gotten worse since the med and over the years.  I do have a history of depression in my family and suicide which makes me nervous too.

Any thoughts, ideas or help appreciated.

I am currently meditating, doing breathing excercises, walking

when I can, music, art and avoiding stress.

My body already knew I should not have sugar so none there, I quit most my supplements. I am eating complex carbs and protein and no gluten either, all organic. I'm gardening too. and when I say all that above it  totally depends on how I feel. I  have mostly been in bed.  Thanks for any help and feedback. Mainly on how can I measure a 5% titration and how long should I stay at it. I heard some people say 10% of your recent dose and stay there a month.

Last time was 10% and I had a seizure.

Thank you, all and I hope everyone here is doing alright. ❤️

Hi Shannon.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

Though the general recommendation for tapering a benzodiazepine is 5-10% every ten days to two weeks, this is a broad recommendation.  Some can taper faster and some must taper slower.  I'm glad you're having a neurologist check you out as seizures are uncommon and usually associated with cold turkey withdrawals.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

Thanks, I brought in photocopies of the Ashton manual to my Dr.  I do understand it. She thought it was nuts because I was able to get off of years of Opiates. 5 + yrs. ago. I  can only think the antihistamine Hydroxyzine I took made had a weird effect with my withdrawl.  I had heavy cotton mouth that day as well.  I have quit that and am taking Benadryl and a small 0.25 of  Flexeril or I would bever sleep.  I should add that I was simultaneously detoxing from Soma as well. 250mg once at night.  I was off Soma after 1.5 months.  So perhaps I am still detoxing that too.

Thank you!!  😘
