I know I have a little ways to go being at 8.75mg but, I was wondering what mg people are making their jump at?

I have 32.75 x 5mg pills left and plan on dropping to 7.5 tomorrow. The goal is to be off by the end of this script, although my doc will give me more if need be. Thanks.

Did the math and will go like this:

Starting tomorrow July 22nd

7.5 mg x 6 days

6.25 mg x 6 days

5 mg x 6 days

3.75 mg x 7 days

2.5 mg x 6 days

1.25 mg x 8 days

Ending on August 31st if all goes to plan

Opinions?

Hi! I have also wondered about this. But from what I read, jumping anywhere  from .5mg to .25mg is common. My husband jumped at .25mg. He was cutting less though towards the end and holding longer.

In my opinion the taper schedule you showed is WAY too fast.  I'm on 8mg of Valium, down from 20, and the pace that I've found to be comfortable is .5mg every other week.  I tried doing .5mg a week but got hit really hard.  Since Valium has such a long half life you're going to want to wait a while between cuts.  And speaking of those cuts you outlined are massive.  You may be able to get through that taper, but it seems like common knowledge if you go too fast you'll suffer protracted symptoms for a long time.

I'm down to 6.25mg for the last 4 days and have been doing pretty good except a sex drive issue which I've posted in withdrawal section. I agree it may be too fast. I'm going to get down to 5mg and hold there until I stabilize, probably hold for 2 weeks or more, then get a lower dosed prescription to make smaller cuts every other week from there.

Besides the libido problem I've only been experiencing minor lack of motivation, lack of pleasure, waves of fatigue, and waves of hyperactivity. Of course a little increased anxiety as well.

If those are you worst symptoms then it sounds like you aren't doing too bad.  If you're comfortable with the pace of the taper then go for it, but you might want to slow down when you get to lower doses.

Thanks for the reply burfm. I'm now down to 2.5mg and have been here for 1-2 weeks. Feeling like **** some days and better other days. Thing is I'm on vacation rn and I didn't get a chance to see my doctor before I left and now only have one dosage left for tomorrow. It will be at least 5 days until I can see my doc again. I feel like 2.5 might be too high of a jump but maybe I should just fight through it?

If you have the option of seeing your doctor sooner I'd do that personally, but if it's really going to be 5 days or more you're probably going to feel crappy but maybe not like hell on earth crappy since Valium stays in your system too long.  In my opinion 2.5mg is too high of a dose to jump off of.  I've heard of people doing it but they usually have a rough acute withdrawal and a really long protracted one.  Good luck whatever happens.

Thanks for the advice burfm. Today was the first day without a benzo in a year. Going to see how the next few days go and reassess from there.
