tossing all my benzos

Been off since November, so this is overdue. Never want to take this rat poison again.

I am tossing out about 500mg of Ativan and 5000mg of Valium (!).

I thought about giving it away, but am deterred by (a) that'd be illegal, (b) not doing the recipient a favor.

So, is there a proper way to do this, or just out with the trash?

There may be some very sedated earthworms in the vicinity of the landfill where the trash is taken to...

So glad you are now in the position to ditch your old benzos.  Awesome.

 

Some say to take it to a pharmacy or the police department still in its original bottles with labels for proper disposal.  I don't like the idea of just taking a labeled bottle with sensitive info even to these two entities.  Besides, whose to say where it would go from there?  I am just cynical enough to believe that unaccounted for drugs with street value might not actually be disposed of, even if it is a pharmacy or police department.  The other alternative is to grind them up and put them into a carrier like coffee grounds or kitty litter and then into a zip lock bag and put them into the regular trash.

 

However you choose to dispose of them, congratulations for making it to this side.  And good on you for proofing your environment so no temptation exists.  I did that the second time around, and if I had done it the first time, I wouldn't have had a second time.

Maybe that will be a pathetic moment (I threw the last pill into a huge river very pathetically)... but no other person would be harmed by the pills...

 

but I don't know what happens to benzos when set on fire - explosion possible? Than Id rather do something different.. but I like the idea of "killing" the pills..

What She has said is the right thing to do. I tried taking my Klonopin to a police station, but they wanted to detain me and talk it over with me. I didn't like that at all, so I left when no one was looking.

Marigold, I like your idea. Maybe make a big bonfire and toss them in? Or, how about buy some fireworks and mix in the pills and shoot them up into the sky? OK, now I'm getting silly...

Well hallelujah and congrats!!! It's been 30 long months since my last pill and I will never forget the day I took that last bottle of evil Ativan and had myself a freedom party! I took the bottle of pills, dumped them in a small bucket and filled it with water. It was pure joy watching those white pills slowly disappear and turn into white liquid. The swirling water just engulfing them. Something very healing happened to me at that moment. They were all dissolved after a few minutes, then I poured it into our yard debris can and the white water just melted into the fresh grass clippings...It was done, they were gone and I was free! It was a moment marked deeply in my mind, that I will never forget after months of CT acute hell on earth. I never touched them, even while I was in the depths of hell, but I had them tucked away just in case. I battled thru the brutal CT and I'm very glad my just in case never came and I will never touch them again.

 

Whatever you do, make it YOUR moment and how awesome you are free! Before you know it, you will have a full year under your belt.  Good job, its the hardest thing I ever went thru, that horrific WD from that poison.

Please take it to a place that can properly dispose of it!  Pharmaceuticals have saturated the water cycle enough that trace amounts are starting to show up in our drinking water across the US.

I have the same problem. I need to get rid of about 5000mg of Valium,

and some Klonopin.

When I got 5150'd, the nursing staff confiscated my Klonopin prescription bottle (expected),

but when I was discharged, they returned it, with half the pills stolen (unexpected).

So I will not take 5000mg V to a pharmacy for disposition, nor any medical facility.

I don't want to flush them and poison the water system either.

Hopefully this thread continues, and a solution surfaces.

I know around here, police stations have prescription drug disposal days with a no questioned asked policy. I'd rip the label off and take it in, if that's the case where you are. I can understand not wanting to be questioned or anything, if they don't have a no questioned asked policy. In that case, I'd probably just grind them up and trash them.

I still have a bottle of clonazepam around somewhere. I always thought I needed to send it off in some grand, symbolic fashion but never got around to it. Maybe I will still make it happen someday. I know one place they will NOT be going, that's for sure.

You can be happy. I tossed my last pill into a big river. A duck swam to the pill and swallowed it! I poisoned a duck. I don't know if ducks have the possibility to get on benzobuddies.org to find help...
