Can anyone explain POTS to me please?
Posted
Yes, i can. It hit me right at the end of my taper. One day I was making lunch and my heart started racing and I felt incredibly ill. Had to lie down. The heart went to normal speed. It was so severe i landed in hospotal. So that is pots. You can Google the syndrome, it will give you all the info you need. But basically, normally when we stand up, our vains contract to counteract gravity. In pots that mechanism breaks down and blood pools in our legs. In order for the brain to have enough blood, the heart starts pumping real fast to move the blood up. So that's it in a nutshell. If you have been struck by this, you are not alone. I think bw hits us where we are most vulnerable. I was incapacitated with this for a very long time. Had to take a small, 10mg x3 a day of beta blocker. It helped. I thought it would never go away but it has. I'm 14 months off and living drug free. Occasionally I still get pots for a few days but very mild. I'm here if you need support.

Thank you so much ladybug! It seems like the longer I stand, the lower my blood pressure goes. It went down to 92/52! It's an awful feeling. I so appreciate your input.👍

Anytime. Im here if you need me. You can pm me if you want more help. I was very scared by this and I was afraid I was going to be like this for life. I wanted someone to tell me it was going to go away. There were some people who wrote to me but they were still having pots so it wasn't that helpful. But I can tell you that it is just bw and once the system settles, it will go away. See a doc. Maybe some temporary meds will help you get through this. I know we hate all meds at this stage but sometimes there is no choice. I was on 3 meds and was able to stop them as I got better.
