Awful reaction to compound solution. Really sick could use support...

Hi everyone.

I paid good money to get klonopin compounded to a liquid solution and started with a dose of  .125 last night. My body reacted so badly to it. It activated huge withdrawal symptoms after being stable for two weeks that are just awful. I took my other dose of .125 in dry pill before bed and some Benadryl but didn't sleep well. Have been napping this morning a bit but am still feeling terrible. I will definitely not use that solution again. Do I dose earlier today and stay with the dry pills to stabilize again for awhile? I got to .125 at 8pm and .125 at 10 and had finally stabilized there. I want to continue tapering but don't know what To do.

Thanks for any help!!!

I think you did the right thing by going back to the pills.  I suspect that you'll stabilize in a few days without a need to change your dose.

This solid to liquid difference has been a topic of discussion several times.  You are not the first person to feel that they got a reduced dose when moving to liquid.  There hasn't been a really well controlled experiment to explain why this happens.  I guessed that some pill takers hold the pills in their mouth for some time before swallowing which could cause some sublingual absorption which would bypass first pass metabolism.  So a 0.125 dose might behave like a somewhat higher dose.  The same thing would not occur with the liquid since you'd probably swallow it immediately.  I'm just guessing about this.  There's gotta be a reason.

One idea to test would be to get some of the suspension liquid (without any klonopin in it) from your pharmacist.  Ingest some (same volume that you used) and see if it rev's you up.  If so, there's something in the liquid that's affecting you.  If not, then it's a dosing issue.  fwiw - some people have found that up-dosing 5-10% takes care of the problem of switching from solid to liquid.

Sorry this is happening to you.

I just posted over the weekend about this.  I started liquid titration last Monday after a two month hold.  Within 4-5 days I had horrible anxiety-nothing like I previously experienced.  I have been assure it couldn't happen, but I don't know.  I'm going to stick with the liquid and see if it calms down.  I don't want to use a dry scale and want to be able to cut smaller doses with my pill.

Please let us know what happens.  Wishing you well.

Thank you both so much for responding. It feel good to know there are people out there! I am going to go back to the pill version but have no idea now what to do to proceed with taper. I usually don't take my first dose until 8pm and have held off. Just feeling like I don't want that stuff in my body at all after today being so hard as if taking more will produce worse symptoms. I am sure I have that backwards tho! Talk about PTSD through this on top of the PTSD I was prescribed benzos for. Praying and hoping to get more support to find a smoother way to taper. 😊🙏🏼

The compounded pharmacy is currently making a liquid form of Clonazepam for me. Do you know what the inactive ingredients is?

I'm going to add another voice to the "liquid gave me incredible symptoms I had not experienced" line.  It was like I wasn't getting enough medicine., really horrible few days.  I have found a way to use both pills and liquid that is working for me. The idea of small cuts with the liquid is a really good one.  Let me know if you'd like more information.

Things stabilized in two days after I went back to pills only.

Hope you feel better soon.

Family fun - they used organic olive oil and klonopin that supposedly has no fillers. I hope you respond better than I did. Also, it hit me SO fast it was not the slow come on that the pill has. Much too intense for me and the withdrawal symptoms that came with it! I had such high hopes so I am hoping that you will have better success.  Suffering Sixty - are you now using both liquid and pills or just pills? And any recommendations on continuing with a dry taper? I don't want to stay at .25 for much longer really trying to get through this. Thanks!

The fact that it hit you fast still leads me to think that you somehow ended up with more medicine instead of less.  If you had taken nothing, I don't think your symptoms would have rev'd up that quickly.

Hi Wonder,

I'm so sorry that you had that experience.  I was pretty bewildered about it all until I got some support on here for what happens to many. Thanks Buddies!  After a few experiments with varying success I figured out that if I used liquid for the amount that I would have cut in a week -- in my case.06 Xanax --  and the rest in pills, then the liquid worked really well.  (See my sig for my unconventional combination of meds.)

I'm a big fan of the liquid pill combo!

Hope things smooth out soon and that you can continue the taper.
