To builder or somebody, new taper schedule

[Ma...]

Recommended Posts

I was doing a dry cuts and then liquid taper.  Due to bad symptoms, I have decided to hold at 10 mg Valium ungil September.  This is much lowed than 4 mg Ativan I took for 15 years. We have awful winters hereand I hibernate anyway.

So what would be a liquid (vodka and water) schedule for 5% reduction per month from 10mg V?  Maybe I could tolerate that without ruining the rest of my life and my husband's as we are 65 and 70 respectively.

Hello, I did dry cuts through out my taper so far and am thinking of doing the rest via liquid titration because I don't think that cutting pills is very accurate especially at low doses.

You may find this youtube link to be helpful.  Start at vid 1 (there are three) and there is a schedule included.

Hey Marja2,

Thank you for having posted in my thread. Again, congrats on your taper

10 mg is not such a hefty dose.

Actually, about 5 addiction specialists said I could sleep on a small dose of V if I manage to keep it stable. My insomnia dates back to my childhood and I tried all sleep aids possible.

One of the most eminent addiction specialists in my country said benzos are not my biggest issue.

Well, for the time being, I consider them to be.

You can buy liquid Valium. Here e.g.:

https://www.walgreens.com/pharmacy/marketing/library/finddrug/druginfodrugdetails.jsp?drugName=Diazepam%205mg%2F5ml%20(1mg%2F1ml)%20Oral%20Sol&drugId=8047&drugTitle=Diazepam

Or ask a compounding pharmacy to make it for you. You buy a diabetic syringe and taper by 1 mg every two weeks or even a month.

No vodka. Vodka is a liquid benzo. Keep away from alcohol. I haven't touched alcohol since 2003, when I had my first benzo WD (2003-2014).

Alcohol acts on GABA receptors in the brain, just as benzos do. Only it has a euphorizing effect (like Xanax probably, never tried).

One who is cross-addicted to benzos and alcohol, has to withdraw from alcohol first. Alcohol is more dangerous than benzos.

Ppl addicted to alcohol only often receive long-acting benzos short-term in detox. I met many cross-addicted folk in AA. I went there to treat my benzo addiction. I intend to go back to meetings once I overcome my benzo-induced agoraphobia. And taper to the threshold indicated by pdocs, which is exactly 5-10 mg V.

Well, I'm not saying you may be cross-addicted. But why vodka? Oh my. No vodka. Not even a drop.

You may achieve good results with pill cutter. Using 5 mg and 2 mg Valium pills. I tried a liquid taper of Lexapro in the past and it was a nightmare.

If you get down to like 0,5 mg V (1/4 of 2 mg pill) you may start liquid taper from that point. Using liquid Valium.

Take care,

Estee

10mg X 5% = .5mg

.5mg/30 days = .0167mg/day    I would round up to .02mg/day

Dissolve 10 X 5mg (50mg)  tablets in 100ml vodka, and add 400ml water.  Now you have 500ml liquid, .1mg per ml.

5mg tablets    5mg (50ml) liquid

5mg tablets    4.98mg (49.8ml) liquid

5mg tablets    4.96mg (49.6ml) liquid

5mg tablets    4.94mg (49.4ml) liquid

etc...

Lower your dose by .02mg (.2ml) each day.
