Hi all...i have not been posting any threads because i haven't been well at all..still on 1mg clonazepam taken twice a day at 0.5mg doses

My question is...out of desperation...of not sleep at all a few times in the past months i took either one 10mg or one 0.5mg of diazepam total of 14 pills of 10mg to see if it would help me sleep...it basically didn't

help much infact after waking up a few hours of light sleep i feel horrible the rest of the day..like a sick toxic feeling...is taking diazepam while still on clonazepam but holding my taper...is taking a different benzo like diazepam causing me a set back?...each time i took the diazepam it made me sicker..with my symptoms being worse..why is this..when people do a crossover they take clonazepam and diazepam at the same time..is it possible benzos are just toxic for my system...cause nothing works cutting..holding..different benzo..im desperately seeking help?

From what I've read, diazepam isn't the best benzo for promoting sleep out there.  Klonopin seems to be better.  You might benefit from taking a single 1.0 mg dose at night to help your sleep, then trying to get thru the day as best you can without any benzo.  I realize that there would be more variation in your daily dose by just taking one dose a day, but if you could score 5-6 hours of sleep instead of 2-3 (or none), it might be worth it.

As for a set-back...  it's possible, but don't overthink it.  You are where you are.  If it's your intention to get off of this stuff, you're going to have to come to terms with your sleep situation like many of us had to.

Thanks badsocref,

I don't get no therapeutic benefits from clonazepam no more...i'm basically taking it to avoid getting sicker..but the diazepam also makes me fell worse...im sick from both if i were to C/T 1mg..i would probably end up in hospital or worse...i have so many withdrawal symptoms im going crazy.

Diazepam can have that effect of certain people, and I was one of them. It had an immediately depressing effect on me, even though I tried to stick with it while crossing over from Ativan. It didn't work for me, and I ended up by coming off the Ativan directly.

Badsocref's idea is worth a try, I believe - taking it at night may be better than having smaller, ineffective doses, spread out.

Withdrawal really is awful, but the payoff of being free of benzos is worth it. The time will pass, and your system will slowly repair itself - you'll get there.

I was much the same - 1 mg of klonopin stopped working well for me.  I got switched to 2 mg of Ativan, but it never worked all that great.  So I decided that I wanted off.  I c/t'd and it was pretty rough - especially the insomnia thing which is why I got started on benzos in the first place.

Your comment about taking klonopin to avoid getting sicker is an interesting one.  Klonopin (plus whatever base anxiety you have) is what has been making you sick, but the drug blinds the user to its effects until it's too late.  I'm so happy that I finally saw the light, took the time to get the therapy that I needed to put my thoughts in order and got off these stupid benzo drugs.

I had the same problem, 0-2 hours of sleep after Ativan stopped working. After I got off benzos completely, the insomnia continued for a while (which is typical), but over time I began to get longer sleep cycles, 2-3 hours, 3-4, and so on, backtracking in between.

Now I'm up to 6-7 hours, and hoping to one day reach the point of sleeping whenever I feel like it once again.

I was in tolerance WD too, and ended up taking a somewhat high jump from the Ativan, just to stop feeling as sick as the benzo was making me - then things began to slowly improve. I'm guessing that you may not see a lot of improvement either, at least until after you jump.

If you want to try doing 1.0 mg for sleep, take the pill close to bedtime.  I used to pop my benzo, go to bed, and be asleep within 20-30 minutes.  But once it stopped working well, I'd only sleep for like half of the night instead of getting 6-7 hours.

I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this sleep thing.  Insomnia totally sucks.  In time you'll finish your taper.  Only then (after a recovery period) will you be able to see how well you can sleep on your own.

Thanks again badsocref and LeslieAsh..i very much appreciate your support and advice..i don't know if i can do 1mg once a day...I've been taking 3 and then 2 doses a day...do you think the melatonin or magnesium..have something to do with my sleep cycle or is it purely the clonazepam withdrawal?

I've taken melatonin for years.  I haven't had any rebound waking because of it.  I don't know about magnesium.  I know that people can become tolerant to it when used too often for constipation problems.  I have no idea about developing tolerance for anxiety, but it seems like something that could happen over time.  I would tend to place most of the blame on withdrawal since that's how it was with me.

fwiw - during my withdrawal, melatonin had no positive effect on my sleep for a while and I stopped using it.  But after a few months, it started to work again.
