Bipolar like symptoms

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Does your PAWS ever manifest as microcycle bipolar symptoms? I've had this chronically for the past month. For example the mornings are hard for me, I have depression, anxiety and self defeating thoughts about horrible things are etc mixed with headaches and some dizziness. Then come sundown I feel fine, good and optimistic. Too optimistic, sometimes feeling guilty that us Westerners have it too good. I go to bed often thinking I'm cured, thinking "I'm fine! There's nothing wrong, what was I even worried about?"  but the next morning it starts again.

It's driving me batty, but it's also giving me hope that I could recover (mind you, it's nighttime now,  I wouldn't feel like this in the daytime). Penny for your thoughts?

Hi Matt,

I had exactly the same pattern for over a year.  At around 4 pm each day, I'd often feel like a switch had been clicked - like the difference between night and day. This kind of thing is normal in withdrawal, and it doesn't mean you're bipolar.  It's "just" withdrawal, and things will normalize as you heal, though that can take a long time for some of us.  It's Groundhog Day all over again every day.  The key is to accept and expect this is how it will be for awhile, but not forever.

Same cycle here.

First thing in the a.m. are rough.

Then a coffee, answering emails and organizing are good.

Then, 10 to 4 are brutal.

6 to 9 things get better.

Next day: Repeat :-\

Getting up early is just a lifelong habit for me.

It's one of those things I just can't compromise on. Waking up late for me just causes extreme depression. Which would be worse then ANY wd symptoms I might be dealing with. Everyone is different.

I don't cycle through this daily, but I've had days where I felt totally manic, extremely happy, grateful, like I could conquer withdrawal no problem, then days where I was certain I was going to die and couldn't stop crying.

Oh yes, mood swings have been one of my biggest symptoms so far. I haven't found many people who seem to relate to that, for some strange reason. I know it is common, however. I tend to wake up very depressed, most times suicidal, and then suddenly switch in the afternoon to hypomanic and overly optimistic...talking to everybody and being very hypersexual. Coupled with OCD urges, I sometimes fear that I will lose control of myself entirely. I feel EXTREMELY bipolar. I know I am not, however, as I never had mood swings before until right after I jumped. Just our brains swinging to opposite ends of the spectrum trying to find equilibrium.

Thankyou for all the responses and thoughts everyone  :smitten:

There is a lot of correlation, this must be a part of PAWS. Thanks folks :-)
