3.5 months off benzos, and need a tooth pulled Dr. gave me penicillin. Is this ok to take? Will it make withdrawal worse?

Penicillin should be fine (all of the 'cillins' should be find).

Gotta keep that infection down, else the pain can get pretty bad.  I had a cracked tooth extracted around 8 months ago.  I requested no benzos be added to the sedation mix (my dentist sedates patients getting extractions).

Good luck!

Thank you! Yeah its a cracked tooth! Pretty bad so I have to get it yanked. I asked him if he can use Lidocaine and he said yes, so I just hope this doesnt spike up symptoms!

I'm sure it won't be pleasant for a couple of days, but you should be good after that.

I've now had the screw implanted for the subsequent implant (scheduled for October).  That 'procedure' was much mellower.  Didn't even take the oxy's that the dentist gave me.  I took a few following the extraction.

That will be nice once you have the implant! I know that will be next procedure once this is out.

My partner needed to get a mole removed and he was pretty worried about the Lidocaine (there comes a point where everything is questioned as a potential issue in benzo withdrawal).  Keep in mind that epinephrine is typically added to the Lidocaine (the epi is a vasoconstrictor and helps with the bleeding)...however, many folks here on BB warned that the epi could really rev up the benzo symptoms!  We have requested Lidocaine without epinephrine every time he's had mole removed in the past year (three times) and there have been no issues at all.  Do a search on it and you'll find a good amount of information...

I recently finished 3 rounds of antibiotics for tooth issues. Amoxicillin, Augmentin and then finally Flagyl. I had no issues with the first 2 meds, the Flagyl did give horrible GI issues. I'm very sensitive to meds, everything sets me off and I know when my symptoms are revved, these meds didn't do it to me. Maybe you can try Augmentin or Amoxicillin (still in the 'cillin' category), these meds are usually the #1 go to for dental infections and soft tissue bacterial infections. Ask your dentist.

Just be sure to take something to kill the bugs.  You don't want an abscess.  Garlic probably won't do much (except keep the vampires away).

I was left feeling miserable and crappy after the Flagyl too. I lost 6 lbs in 3 days. I could barely stand up without fainting. My legs ached, my entire body felt horrible. I used probiotics, drank ginger tea with honey and lemon (somehow, this was a MIRACLE elixer! I was back to 100% after drinking this 2x a day). I think my body was dehydrated, and drinking water wasn't cutting it. Electrolytes get off balance, the gut is all messed up and you have to restore that flora with probiotics. Plain Kefir is a good choice, but tastes awful.

Sorry you had a reaction to the anti-biotic.  Hopefully the next one will work for you.  Good luck for your procedure.

I take PB8 PROBIOTIC ACIDOPHILUS (14 BILLION) (just google that)

I recommend plain Kefir too, from your local store refrigerator. I took probiotics, they are good but the kefir seemed to do all the hard work (as far as replacing good flora in my gut). I think probiotics in pill form aren't as strong or might get weakened by the acid in our stomach? (My theory).

I'm on Clindamycin now, hope this one doesnt rev up my symptoms as bad. Still have to get tooth pulled now.
