1MG Ativan Jump

[N2...]

Recommended Posts

I have a question, In the last 2 weeks I tapered down to 1MG from 3Mg of Ativan. I have only been using for 3 months. I decided I would jump off the last 1MG last Night. Big mistake, I was feeling great when I went to bed at midnight. Woke up at 3:30am feeling horrible, nervous, sweating,  nauseous. So I took 1MG to try to fell better, no luck so I took another 1MG. And felt better. Question do I have to start all over again, can I go back to 1MG tonight?

Our history is quite similar...I'm not a long term user and I tapered over 5 weeks and I still experienced withdrawal. Someone with more experience can chime in and tell you what to do, I just wanted to give you an idea of what I did. Good luck!

Are you able to switch to valium? Ativan is a short half lifer and isnt ideal to taper on. Switch to valium and go much slower-read Ashton manual-and go from there. Good luck.

Just go back to 1mg tonight.  You're a short-term user, so this should be no problem.  The devil ain't got his meat hooks into you yet.

Thanks Photobug, I am back to 1MG. I think I just freaked myself out, I don't know if you can answer this question. I take the 1MG at 12:00AM night for sleep, about 6:00PM get anxiety, sick, fog head, feels like withdraws. Then about 9:00PM I fell good, until I go to bed at 12;00AM. Could this be the end of the bad withdraws?

You've been cutting your dose very aggressively.  It might be a good idea to stay at 1mg at 12 AM for a couple of weeks, then start cutting .125mg every two weeks.  Ativan will really kick your butt if you go too fast.

Will it actually level out, our will I continue to withdraw? Because I could not get to sleep lastnight. I used Ativan in the past about 6 years ago, 4mg a day for 2 years. Went cold turkey and felt good in 2 weeks. now 6 years later, 3 months of use cant get off 1mg. I don't remember it being this bad?

I was a short term user and jumped off .125 after an aggressive taper. I had awful acute withdrawal for a week, then pretty severe withdrawal for another week. I had only been taking it for three weeks and that point and wanted OFF because it made me feel awful. So....while my taper and jump was probably too fast, I think staying on it any longer would have made it that hard to jump from. I started on an initial dose of 1.5mg/day.

Thanks Jessica, I am taking 1MG at night for sleep. And it doesn't put me to sleep, getting anxiety during the day and other problems. Should I split the pill and take .5 at midnight and .5 at noon? Thanks, and start taper at what speed?

Wow, interesting history, then you're not really a short-term user, you're a repeat high-dose cold turkey guy.  Search the forum on keyword kindle or kindling.  It might be a new ballgame this time around, requiring a different (slow) strategy for getting off.

Fast is not working!! I tried to jump again last night. Had to go to work in the Morning. Couldn't go to sleep got withdraws bad, so I took Ambien 5Mg. Woke up with bad depression, crying like a baby. I am very desperate to get off this med, I made a very bad decision to start it again. I never abused it, its giving me some bad side effects. Which I never had before, sometimes when I take it at night it keeps me up. Its a catch 22 here, and I'm blaming my self, I have a family to support. And I am losing my over this business. Should I go back to 1.5Mg again. Should I be splitting this up in the day. I need help, what is the fastest I should be going on cuts and how many days. Thanks!

I have to agree with this. I think you may need to rethink your strategy to get off it-- and do some research on kindling. I think you may need to do a less aggressive taper on this and you may be moving too fast. I am sorry you are struggling so much. It is such an awful, awful drug to come off. Hang in there. Have you read the Ashton manual? This gave me a lot of help and hope in understanding my symptoms and it also has a lot of tips on tapering. If I were you, I'd try to taper down .125mg every week or so until you're ready to jump: http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

Trust me, I was so desperate to get off it. I wanted to be done with it the second I realized what it was doing to me. But I have read that going too fast can cause your later recovery time to be longer than necessary, so...kind of the old adage of slow and steady wins the race. Hang in there. You'll be off it soon enough.

  • 3 weeks later...
I am down to .75mg, at bed time now. Bad anxiety during the day which I never had, when people say wait for it to level out . What does that mean? It sucks everyday.

I had awful anxiety during the day when tapering and jumping. It was so bad in withdrawal that I couldn't be alone and couldn't drive myself. It has gotten much better but I will still say that I have constant anxiety and either a low or moderate level every day.

I CT off Ativan over 2 years ago and I can't emphasize enough to do this slowly. Ativan kicking your butt if you go too fast is an understatement! I still can't believe I actually did that. It was the scariest thing I have ever done in my life. I encourage you to go slow, listen to your body and listen to the BB here that have experience tapering properly. It's a beast if your not careful.

Blessings & strength to you!!!
