Changing nightly ativan dose to 2x a day.

Hi BB, I am currently on 1mg ativan at night but I want to tapper off and turn it into 2 doses to reduce interdose withdrawals. I started at 3mg and then reduced to 1mg by 1mg every month without much trouble. Here is my rough plan so far:

0.25mg am / 0.75mg pm (1-2 weeks) [start at 1mg total]

0.25mg am / 0.50mg pm (1-2 weeks)

0.25mg am / 0.25mg pm (1-2 weeks)

0.125mg am / 0.25mg pm (1-2 weeks)

0.125mg am / 0.125mg pm (1-2 weeks)

However I tried to reduce 1mg to 0.5mg at night a few days ago and I got really bad night sweats and couldn't sleep at all. So I was wondering if starting like this would be a better idea:

0.25mg am / 1mg pm (1-2 weeks) [ 1.25mg total]

...

...

Alternatively I have a lot of klonopin left from before, would it be better to switch to it's equivalent dose and start a once a day tapper as it is longer acting? (I don't have valium unfortunately :( )

Thanks for your help.

If you're a short term user your first plan should be okay.  If you're a long term user your planned cuts might be a little too aggressive.  I have no experience with Klonopin, but based on what I've read here over the years, I don't know what you'd gain by crossing over to it.
