Hi Everyone - gearing up for a taper!

I'm 13 years prescribed diazepam (current dose 7.5mg per day) + zopiclone (7.5mg) also I take Propranolol.

I'm trying to get stable on my dose which I'd been taking chaotically before tapering.  Made some fundamental errors recently which put me into crisis and major panic attack.

On the upside, I never drink alcohol (14months sober) and eat a healthy diet, have recently given up caffeine too!

Hoping to find some handy tips on how to stay safe and start a taper :)

Hello Jay-BB  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

We are glad you found us, you will get plenty of help and support here.  Well done in your decision to taper off these drugs. Congrats on being 14 months sober, I know how tough that is.  Tapering slowly is considered the best way to withdraw from benzodiazepines. Reducing your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days is the rule of thumb.  A slow taper helps keep symptoms manageable.

I would suggest you read The Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

Here, on the forum you will find some very valuable support and information.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

Thank you Magrita  :)

I'm blown away that you're Benzo free after so many years 'on'.  This gives me hope, I was starting to feel despair.

You are most welcome, Jay-BB.  I promise you that the same will happen for you too.  Don't lose hope, take it slow, you can do it!!

Withdrawal is very challenging but its worth it, It really does get better.
