I need help as i totally stuffed up my taper by not researching and mucked up, now im panicking.

Im on clonazepam  .5mgs for 4 years now and became tolerant so decided to taper 1/4 of a tablet every 2 weeks which was going well till now. Thing is as ive just realized this isnt accurate tapering as my last cut was from .25 to .125 which means i did a 50% cut! im now 13 days into this and i crashed on the 11th day, bad side effects! I assume i need to hold here for a bit. Need some advice should i go back up a bit? or just hang on.. Ive ordered some scales and will slow this right down but just need some reassurance of what i should do

Hi  new-beginnings  Welcome to Benzobuddies

We are glad you found us, don’t worry, you’re going to be okay, you can do this!  Sorry you found out the hard way, benzodiazepines should be tapered slowly,  a 50% cut is far too much.  If symptoms are very severe you might possibly wish to go back up a little and then slow down your taper.

Tapering slow can help to minimize withdrawal effects.  It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for your own comfort.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.

Are you familiar with the  Ashton Manual , it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal/tapering.

Here are some helpful links:
