Hey all - newbie here :)

I was directed to BenzoBuddies from a website I ran across while reading about Klonopin withdrawal symptoms. I've been on Klonopin for 11 years at varying dosages (started at 0.25mg/day, went up to 5mg/day, and then evened out for 5+ years at 2mg/day).

I've been doing a lot of work in therapy and have realized that I most likely do not need Klonopin any longer due to being able to manage my anxiety without needing medication of any type. That's when my withdrawal process began. We recently moved, however, and it became more complicated when my new primary care doctor gave me enough Klonopin to last me a month, with month-long "weaning" instructions. I don't have an appointment with a psychiatrist until early August and my PCP will not prescribe any more.

It's been brutal so far. So I thought I'd join here for support, advice, and whatever else can be offered. In return I'll definitely be willing to offer my support and any advice/suggestions I pick up along the way.

Hello, Oakwood. Welcome to Benzo Buddies. We're glad to have you here. I'm very sorry to hear what a difficult situation you're in. It would indeed be very painful to wean off of Klonopin in a month. I don't have any personal experience with this type of situation, but there is a wealth of information on this forum and many other buddies who will be able to share their experiences with you.

You may find these boards to be particularly helpful:

Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

Cold Turkey, Detox & Rapid Withdrawal

Success Stories

You can locate our other boards with many more resources from our home page: BenzoBuddies Community Forum.

You will find stickies in bold pinned at the top of the boards. These threads contain information that our members have found to be particularly helpful. Feel free to start your own thread on the relevant board and ask any questions you may have about withdrawal and recovery.

I'd also like to give you a link to the Ashton Manual. Dr. Ashton is an expert on withdrawal from benzodiazepines. Much of what we know about benzodiazepines and successful withdrawal comes from her work. I wonder if you shared this information with your doctor, if he/she would at least let you taper at Dr. Ashton's rate.

The Ashton Manual

Finally, I'd like to ask you to read the stickies on our Community Policies & Documents and to Add a signature  before you begin to post. Doing these two things will help you to connect with our community and find the help you need.

Best wishes on your journey to health and healing,
