Last Clonazepam Dose!!!

[ke...]

Recommended Posts

After a year and half of tapering (started January 2016 at 1 mg), holding and water titration (started January 2017). I finally took my last dose of Clonazepam this morning.  This is not something I share with my close friends or even family, so I wanted to celebrate with someone.

I have had withdrawal symptoms on and off throughout the process to varying degrees. I would hold when necessary to stabilize, then continue as symptoms improved, usually after about 13-14 days. I have had minor symptoms this past week (irritability, aches and pains, negative thoughts). I am wondering what to expect over the next few weeks. Will the withdrawal symptoms increase as each benzo-free day passes? Can I expect symptoms to get much worse? When can I expect these minor symptoms to subside?

Keepbreathing - Congrats on your jump!!  Hoping and praying it will go well for you!  Did you go down to completely zero ml or just a little above?  I am planning on jumping in about 6 weeks or so I hope!

There are a lot of other people that have finished their taper and I am sure you will find your answers.  Keep posting if you can for all of us that haven't finished yet.  Praying for you!

Congrats! Everyone's body reacts differently. I tapered low and had mild withdrawals after my last dose. Mostly during weeks 3 and 4.

  • 1 month later...

I just wanted to give an update. For those of you who are still tapering, have hope. I have been clonazepam-free since my last post. ;D I did have a bad week about four weeks after my last dose, but this could have been because I missed a few doses of my synthroid. I continue to have mild symptoms such as irritability, foggy thinking, difficulty concentrating, mild depression, and negative thoughts. I just keep telling myself there is no way around this part, only through it.

I have since begun a very gradual taper of my ambien. I was initially prescribed ambien in 2006 after being diagnosed with cancer, and then later that year my mother passing away. I only used it occasionally, but started taking it more regularly in 2010. I started suffering with irritability and anxiety, so my physician prescribed me clonazepam in 2012. Now, I believe it was the daily withdrawal from the ambien which was causing the irritability and anxiety. If I had only realized at the time it was due to the ambien!

I am now beginning a very gradual taper of the ambien. Unfortunately, I think I should have tapered the ambien first, but there is no way I will do a cross-over back onto a benzo. I am going to do a direct taper of the ambien. Since it acts very similarly to a benzodiazepine, I want to be completely off this medication as well. I made my first cut a couple weeks ago using a micro scale to measure dose based on weight. I decreased by about 4-5%. The withdrawal symptoms are very similar to clonazepam, but I would say not as severe. Definitely wait until a period of low stress if possible. I am going to hold for a short while and evaluate how the symptoms are before proceeding. I will update from time to time.

Good luck to others who are tapering!  :)
