Ive. Been taking it for about a month .5 mg 3x a day i have been tappering down im all the way down to 1/2 .25mg in the afternoon and .25mg before bed time. After i started taking xanax ive been experiencing shortness of breath heart palpitation and i get these head discomfort sometimes light headed muscle twitching come and go my body feels deprived of energy my eyes my face, ive lost alot of weight, my appetite has come back ive had irregular bowl movements back pains etc, i just wanted to know if this is part of tappering of xanax , ive had so much blood work done cardiologist chest xrays etc everything has come back fine. Is it normal to feel out of energy while tappering off of xanax had hot flashes, i was drinking alot of tea and had to stop it was really messing me up. Heart palpitation are very reduced and my heart rate stays elevated at times and i get this shortness off breath comes and goes which is weird. Thats whta ive been experiencing so far and this was really short term use which is why i find it to be so weird to me. Help anyone who has experienced these sysmptoms?

Hello, Elizaul - Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congratulations on the work on your taper.  It sounds as though you are experiencing very standard withdrawal symptoms.

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through and can tell you what has worked for them. I withdrew from benzos and understand how frightening these symptoms can feel.  It is good that you have checked your symptoms out, medically.  Many of us have done that, too, and more often than not, there is no underlying medical issue.

Please feel free to post to any of the specialized boards, which can all be accessed from the BenzoBuddies Community Forum homepage. Based on the information provided in your introduction, the following links may be a good starting place for you:

Withdrawal Support During Your Taper

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

For those who are currently tapering, we suggest reducing no faster than 5-10% every 10-14 days, and some taper even slower than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper faster than that.

Please take the time to Create a Signature. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Again, welcome!

Carol Jean

Elizaul it sounds like a pretty common taper. Some people have the same difficult withdrawal following short term benzo use as long term users do. It appears you may be one of them.

Feel free to ask all the questions you need on the boards here and some friendly Benzobuddy will jump in to help. There is little we can do physically for you, but the mental support here is priceless. We are all fighting the same battle. It isn't easy, but read some success stories and you will see it can be done.
