Secluded and Suffering

Hello all. I am getting ready to turn 38 years old. I was first hospitalized and medicated when I was 15 years old. For the past ten years, at least, I have been on some pretty heavy drugs. I honestly can't remember half of what I was prescribed. There's a lot I can't remember. God showed me that I didn't have Bipolar Disorder, instead I had a whole crap load of trauma, that had just pilled up, that had never been processed, only punished and sedated. When I knew the truth, there was no stopping me. Last summer, I quickly tapered off 500 mg of Seroquel, 150 mg of Lamotrigine, 2 mg of Prazosin, and 1.5 mg of Klonopin. I've been off everything for 6 months now. And only now am I starting to remember, am I starting to feel, and it's an incredibly painful process, beyond painful. But I try not to indulge my pain. I try to be proactive. I think I am doing a lot better than most would anticipate. Right now, I am wondering about a Candida cleanse. I've been doing a Paleo Diet to ease the withdrawal and promote healing. I try to exercise. My head hurts like crazy most of the time, though I refuse to take anything. I really need guidance, but I am still too terrified to go see a doctor. After at least 7 hospitalizations, and years destroyed under their treatment. I don't know where to turn.

Welcome to the forum! We're glad to have you as a new member.  In our experience, there's no magic cure for withdrawal.  Time itself is the healer, and it's best to be patient and let time do its work.

You'll find lots of information and support here.  Our members have been through all aspects of withdrawal, and you're likely to find  people who understand what you're going through. For those who are currently tapering, we suggest reducing no faster than 5-10% every 10-14 days, and some taper even slower than that.  One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper faster.

Having some withdrawal symptoms is normal, especially near the end of a taper and for a few months after discontinuing the medication.  First/only withdrawals after a slow taper tend to be easier than multiple reinstatements/withdrawals over time, which may make symptoms worse and longer lasting. The most common symptoms are anxiety and insomnia but there are many others. These are temporary and will go away in time.

Here are a few links you may find useful:

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field. Section III explains and describes symptoms, and there is also a section with suggested taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!
