Relief for pain

I have bad lower muscle tightness and pain.  Does a TENS machine help to relieve muscle tension. thanks

Sure does... -I have found mine great for many things... -It even helps insomnia, as a meditative distraction and soothing type thing...

Its good for nerve distraction too...

-long list...

I got my own while I was still in hospital, and we joked that I was welding my pelvis back together...

-and in reality, it increases blood flow and healing.... So..??

BUT, I am yet to put it on my head to try it on benzo brain healing... possibly not a great idea...

-Only mildly addictive too... :)

Hi Cantfly,

Thanks so much for your feedback.  I will get onto amazon and order a TENS unit.  They seem quite cheap and very small these days.  I'm off to chiropractor tomorrow for spine pain issues, and can get some advice how best to use the TENS.  Just hope I can cope with trip to chiropractor with my anxiety and awful DP that I have.

thanks again

No probs...

Look for one you can get cords and pads for easily, check battery type for a common one, and an auto shut off... If i dont turn mine off manually, ie. fall asleep after the timer shuts it off, the battery still slowly goes flat, -it adds up...

To get technical, some feachers came out after mine (about 2010) that are said to be a big step forward...  -google, or perhaps your physio might know more...

Good luck..

Thanks for posting on this. I've never heard of this TENS machine--does it hurt? does it help pain that's in the bones or joints? (I'm thinking of my sister's hip pain)

When using it, does it give any kind of sensation (buzzing, vibrating?) or is it something you don't even notice? (my sister is pretty much afraid of gadgets, so anything that buzzes, zaps, or vibrates would probably be out)

Thanks

Like Laura, I never heard of a  TENS machine either.

I just looked it up.  I have brutal upper back/shoulder pain from tension.

Any brand/model that is recommended??

It has pads that trigger an electrical stimulation of muscle nerves, thus the muscles to varying degrees... -from a fine tickle to a brutal pounding... :)

Can be very soothing and hypnotic -relaxing (at the right setting, -start gentle and increase as needed)

Increase blood flow (healing) -release toxins, -reset tight muscles, -numb nerve pain... etc...

They have many different types of settings and strength settings..

You could probably buy one for less than a physio appointment, and try it in your own home... If she can wear headfones, u might be in luck if you ease into it with no surprises...

Sounds great for your situation...

There are old threads on here about TENS... -somewhere... but its all on google...

All the best...

If your sister doesn't like zaps and buzzes, etc this is not the gadget for her. I bought one of these things years ago before my taper. It has little suction cup type things you attach to your back, shoulders, etc and it sends a current through them. It can be quite intense if turned up too high.

The trick would be to not turn it up too high... -use the ranges that produce smiles...

In this case, I am thinking of the soothing, relaxing, distracting type ranges, as im fairly sure she would not like the higher settings...

But each to their own... -cheap enough to try... IMO

Thanks!  Amazon and WalMart has them for around $30

I saw this one in action on YouTube and it seems very versatile.

Ha! I don't smoke.

I wouldn't even be able to he the 4 pads on my back.

I'm sure that your $100 unit more that paid for itself over the years.

I need to try it out

lol, I gave up in the midst of my worst WD... I was just way too sick to smoke...

But I use the smartass cost comparison if im weighing up spending money on something good...

Mine would probably be no better than a $30 one... They seemed to get cheap and popular all at once... Perhaps a patent ran out or something..??

Anyways... -My best to all...
