Hello benzonerves,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  It certainly seems as if you've been bounced on and off benzos, I'm sorry this has happened to you.  Cold turkey is not the recommended method for stopping these types of drugs, I know from experience how rough that can be.

The symptoms you describe are very common for benzo withdrawal.  However, I do believe that your current taper plan is too fast and that could account for the severity of withdrawal effects. Since you had taken diazepam for 3 years at a fairly significant dose, a slow taper is highly recommended. In general, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

Congratulations on being opioid free, that is a great accomplishment! Now onto the benzos.  Slow and steady is the way to go in terms of benzo withdrawal. We'll be happy to support and encourage you as you journey to be benzo free.  We also look forward to your input and hearing about your experiences. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
