Still hypersensitive to caffeine after 6-7 months

This is really annoying! I've had good days and bad days since jumping, but the one constant seems to be my sensitivity to caffeine. I can even drink alcohol in moderation without any symptom flare ups! For those of you who became sensitive to caffeine, how long did you have to wait before you could tolerate it again? Additionally, did you find that your sensitivity increased after a wave?

I can relate.  Before all this, I was a 3-4 cup of coffee plus a diet coke or two per day person.  I had to give up all caffeine in acute.  I stayed off for at least 15 months and then as my symptoms got better, I added it back slowly.  I now drink half-caff, a cup in the morning and a cup in the late afternoon.  Additionally, I can now have the occasional caffeinated tea or soda without any problems.  A real treat for me is a chai latte, which has some caffeine in it but less than coffee and I tolerate that very well.  I never tried caffeine whilst still having waves, so can't speak to that.  But I don't think I will ever be the caffeineaholic I once was.  I just don't seem to want it or need it as much as I once did.

I'm approaching 3 years and still can't drink caffeine.  :(

How are your other symptoms? I could feel my ability to tolerate caffeine slowly returning, but then I had 2 big waves that were set off by stressful events in my life. I feel that they have also reset my intolerance to caffeine, sadly.

I'm just going to be a jerk here... do you have to re-add it? Caffeine is just another addiction. Sorry to any I've offended.

You have every right to your opinion.  And so do I.  For me, those two cups of half caff and/or the occasional chai latte or diet coke are some of the few grace notes I get in life right now.  I enjoy it and look forward to it, albeit in a much reduced amount.    This process has taken so much from me that I'll be damned if it will take everything.  So you are a caffeine teetotaler, well good for you.  Other people are not and good for us too.  The OP is not asking for a philosophical treatise on the moral and ethical considerations of some caffeine consumption, but if it made you feel better by posting your stance, well alrighty then.  ;)

Personally I'm a big fan of artisanal coffee, so there's a happiness/pleasure component that I really miss. There's also a growing body of evidence that suggests daily consumption of black coffee can provide a number of benefits. I've never had a problem with it in the past as far as the habit goes, but I recognize that some folks may have had difficulties.

I had the insomnia and anxiety prior to taking benzos, though, so it's hard to gauge that one. :)

My most frustrating one is for sure the exercise issue and exhaustion. 5lb arm weights will put me in a wave for days. I feel exhausted after walking up a flight of stairs. I am 29 and was in great shape before all of this so it's frustrating!

The other one that bothers me quite a bit is alcohol, and mainly because I have missed out on being able to drink anything for my wedding that I had this year or all of the festivities leading up to it.. and several other big occasions as well. Not that I want to drink a lot, but to not be able to even have a few sips or a toast of champagne on my wedding day has just been tough.

The other things (caffeine & food sensitivities) are easy ones for me. But, I was not much of a coffee drinker before all of this. Hope you are slowly able to regain your ability to enjoy some morning joe! :)

@looseleaf my main lingering symptoms are: pretty severe exercise intolerance, alcohol intolerance, caffeine intolerance, dairy/gluten/sugar sensitivities, insomnia, anxiety, and hormonal issues.

Sorry to hear about your exercise and alcohol intolerence. I can exercise a bit myself, but I rarely push myself harder than a brisk walk. I'm not sure if it has helped my withdrawal or not, tbh. I have only had problems with alcohol when I've been under-hydrated beforehand, I think. Hope everything returns to normal for you as well. Although caffeine seems like an easy lifestyle thing to give up, it has been quite hard for me! Every day I'm tempted to try, and I sometimes ruin my best windows because I think that there's no way I could become a wreck when I feel great. Wrong!

I tested the waters again today, and I seem to be as sensitive to it as ever. At 4 months I could handle a cup of half-caffeinated coffee; at nearly 7 months a few sips revved me up to the point of discomfort. Makes no sense to me.
