I keep relapsing. Taper from Klonopin to Valium, the ~15th time.

Hello,

Tapering is so difficult for me especially because valium has no anxiolytic effect for me, while klonopin does.

I'm currently am on day 4 of my taper, again.

2mg Klonopin in the morning

15mg of Valium in the evening

I am just struggling so much with anxiety. I cannot sleep, I have a terrible habit of trying to taper too quickly each time. Just hoping to hear from others. How do you prevent the need to drop the dosage quickly? I'm very stubborn and want to get off these meds quickly.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from others

Personally, I see little reason to switch to valium if you're taking klonopin.  Valium does not possess the same anxiolytic effect as klonopin, and if sleep is an issue, then why switch?  I don't understand why you take the valium at night???

As for relapsing - getting off these drugs can be really difficult, and modern day humans want/demand instant gratification (which is why we all started taking these pills in the first place).  Sadly, that mindset won't get you through withdrawal.  If you lack the discipline to stick to your taper, you'll never do it.  It's just too tempting to reinstate when you're feeling lousy.  So the first order of business seems to be developing some discipline.  Alternatively, you could hand your meds to a friend and have them administer your taper to you.  Probably has to be a very good friend since you may behave very poorly towards them when you want more drug than you've agreed to take.

I understand about wanting to get off quickly.  I c/t'd, but don't recommend it.  Just do a responsible taper and stick to it and you can be rid of this stuff in a year or so.  I know it seems like forever, but that's just the way that it is.  Accept the situation that you're in and do what's necessary to move forward.

I agree totally with badsocref.  Don't taper with something that doesn't "work" (Valium).  Withdrawal is a process but it can be done - many of us BBs are living proof.

Please try to stay positive and tell yourself this is the last taper you are going to do and you will be successful!  Keep that mantra daily.  I am a firm believer in being positive.  Take care.
