65 and discouraged, may quit permanently

I started in 2002, and have been on 4 mg a day Ativan ever since.  I had tried a slow cut taper in 2008 after losing 3 jobs.  This was not actually due to Benzos.  I have had a long history of personality problems and getting along with people, all my life.

I was better than average looks and brains, but just didn't cut it.

Now it is 2017.  I have tried dry cuts, switch to valium with 1pill + taper from liquid from 15 mg valium. Everything failed.

After an almost total descent into hell again, I am holding at 10mg valium.  I am 65 and my husband is almost 70.

Hi! long-term benzo use is a tragedy. It's approved for "short-term" use. not years. I'm sorry benzos have added to your burdens. What did you mean by; "may quit permanently"? Quit what?

peace,

stasia

Marja, sorry you are at this crossroads.  I hope you can find a doctor to help you through this withdrawal process.  Not to judge, but since you mention "not cutting it" with getting along with others, would you benefit from some type of therapy to help with relationships?  I only bring that up because when one doesn't have support of others or meaningful connections life can be lonely and unfulfilling.

I was on Valium too and see it did wreck some relationships for me (but I believe any benzo can do that for some folks).  I have started to recover those relationships and have also looked for new ones.  Additionally, I am becoming a bit more positive being 7 months jumped.

I wish you well and am sorry I can't offer anything more at this time.  Good luck.

Stasia ( I think, or whoever, don't know for sure bad tinnitis). By quit I mean the taper and hold at 10 mg for a while.  Hopefully I will not descend agaiin.  My husband and I need a good summer. We are in the bbaddest part of upstate NY and hibernated all winter. Wish I didnt feel constantly nauseated.  Could be having so much fun.  What a waste.

I think you are wise to hold for a while and just give yourself a rest and try to stabilize the best you can.

Sometimes I get frustrated with how long this taper is taking, but we are not in a race to the end.

My goal is to be benzo free while taking the most comfortable road possible to get there.
