My doctor prescribed hydroxine to stave off withdrawal. Has anyone else tried this?

It doesn't stave off withdrawal really. It is a antihistamine, 1st generation I believe. It has some sedating properties and it is believed to help calm anxiety although it is not really understood how that takes place. My doctor told me it could possibly help with tremors also. I have had a script for it now for many months even before withdrawal. I have taken it regular around the clock and I have also just used it to help me rest at night. It isn't going to hurt you imo if you take it. It may or may not help with some of your anxiety. I am prescribed 50 mg 4 times a day.

Wow 50 mg twice a day. That sounds like a lot. Thank you for your help.

I take 50 mg at bedtime. It causes me to have visual disturbance if I take it during the day. At bedtime, it makes me drowsy and helps me sleep through the night. I tried benadryl, but it makes my legs twitch  (restless legs).

I was prescribed it to help with sleep, but unfortunately it did not work for me (still had severe insomnia). But it did make me less anxious about not sleeping! I think it is fine for occasional use. From what I have experienced and heard, it does lose effectiveness fairly quickly, at least at lower doses.

Yeah, I have heard it loses effectiveness also. I have been on it for such a long time that I question if it is still helping me rest or is it now a placebo affect. It does seem to help a little to calm anxiety when it starts to get out if hand but I have to take it as soon as I see there is a problem and lay down and rest until it starts to work.

It makes me feel sick and depleted of energy.

That stuff gave me worse anxiety for some reason
