Single parenting while in hell

I'm not sure if there are any single parents doing this. I have no idea how to cope with all the symptoms as they plague me daily. I have a son to raise and am nothing but a warm body in the house; one enveloped in fears that I won't be here to see him grow. I'm just wondering if there are tips to manage symptoms so that I can, in some way, be a parent to him. I fear my mother dying or becoming disabled then neither of us in the capacity to care for him or us.

I worry that my brief benzo use has destroyed my ability to parent the way I did before. I am sad over the whole situation but probably saddest about this.

Me too Jessica; What I've lost in giving to my son is heartbreaking-I was on the verge of having my graduate degree and being able to afford a better life-now, I can't work at all. You will though-this isn't for long for you I'm sure...you hadn't been on long...I'm sure your recovery is soon...

I am taking things one day at a time. I keep telling myself that one bad year won't scar my kids for life-- here's to hoping. I struggle to cope most days at this point.

I'm sorry...I completely understand...I'm working on ruining year two for us

You aren't. I have found that kids are so resilient. The last month and a half has been a literal nightmare for me and my kids seem no worse for it. They don't know that I am "sick" outside of the fact that things at home are a little different-- I sleep often and at different times, and I really can no longer cook meals and do playtime the way I used to. They are happy to eat carry-in food and occupy themselves while I try to put my life back together...hang in there.

Hi, I can empathize. Though I am not a single parent - yet  :-[ I feel like I am on my own most of the time. I have two girls. One age 7, the other 10. I am getting up the nerve to tell my 10 year old what is going on with me. I am at the point where I feel I need to.

Do your children understand what is going on?

Hi....I'm sorry...this is so horrible to have to allow our children to see. I just have one son who is 14 and yes, he knows. I've had a hard time shielding it from him because my symptoms are so bad. My mother is doing the majority of parenting which also makes me feel so guilty. It's the worst thing I could have put him through....I know you will find the right words though to explain to yours....they will understand, love and support you.
