Need advice about tapering after two day "binge" on Ativan, am tapering

First I asked respectfully not to be judged. I know what I did was wrong, and no matter what the excuses are I know better. I failed and am kicking my own butt.

I have been tapering Ativan for three and a half months. Have made it down to .375 mgs once daily at bedtime.

The day before yesterday life dealt me a couple of blows, and my coping skills weren't the greatest. The day before I took at total of 0.625 mgs of Ativan.. last night I took a total of 1.325 mgs.

I know that if I want to be free of Ativan and gabapentin...I shouldn't and can't do this any longer. This type of failure is unacceptable.

My question:

Given that I had two days of updosing though not unreasonable amounts, I veared off my taper.

Simply put..can I pick up where I left off at .375 and know I may be uncomfortable. Or should I stay at a higher dose for a few days and cut down? I don't know what to do. I am sitting here I. Tears because I am scared, weak, and ashamed.

I feel so alone. I regret it.

Hi Pumpkin,

Don't beat yourself up too much. I think all of us who eventually made it to 0 had our setbacks along the way. It's an incredibly difficult thing, this tapering process.

I think you should go back to your .375 dose and not obsess over this 2 days of updosing. Keep tapering slowly, try to avoid more rescue doses, and you'll reach your goal.

Love,

CP

Dont think of it as failure, think of it as learning. I agree going right back to where you were is probably fine, maybe hold for a bit before reducing further. While you are holding you could make a list for yourself (I wrote mine down on my phone) of things you can do when you feel bad that dont include taking benzos. Also, I feel like a broken record saying this but.... I cut up all my pills and laid them out in pill boxes two weeks in advance. That way there is no thinking, worrying or second guessing about how much to take, just take what is in the box and move on with the day as well as you can.

No big deal!

Your 2 day updose won't have any significant effect on your taper.  Pretend it never happened and just continue on with your plan.
