Klonopin taper

[im...]

Recommended Posts

So I've been on various doses of Klonopin (most was probably 3mgs a day) for about 20 years. Been pretty much steady at .5mgs for the past couple of years though.

My doctor doesn't trust me with the Klonopin after too many OD's mixed with alcohol over the years (yeah, I know...ugh). He cut me down to .25mgs a month ago. It's been a rough month. :(

He gave me some more .25s and wants me to start taking it every other day. Is that a good idea? I do have some extra .5s that I can play around with cutting up, so I was figuring that I'd finish off the .25's and then cut the .5s into quarters? I'm not quite sure which is the best way to go.

I did skip Mondays dose, but I've been horribly sick from antibiotics (or the taper, who knows) stomach related. I'm barely keeping liquids in. Was feeling better stomach wise yesterday so I skipped it and back to the same issues all night and this morning.

The brain side effects seem to be doing better though. I had horrible brain fog, problems concentrating, focusing, awful anxiety, shaking, twitching and all that other fun stuff. The only thing left is the stomach stuff, but then again, it could be antibiotic related. I'm just afraid all the other side effects will come back if I start taking it every other day though. I was pretty much non functional. (well more non functional than usual. heh)

So anyway, every other day? Cut up the .5s? Any ideas?

Hello imperfectjenny  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

Sorry to hear about your OD’s,  alcohol and benzos are a lethal mix, so please try and avoid alcohol.  Tapering slowly is considered the best way to withdraw from Benzodiazepines.  Personally I don’t thing tapering every other day is a good plan.  For a smoother taper, reducing your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days is the way to go. The aim is to keep symptoms manageable,  tapering slowly helps to minimise withdrawal effects.

Don't try cutting without a scale. You will not be happy for the side FX. Been there bought the T-shirt. My suggestion is to buy a micro scale and weigh your meds and taper about 5% at a time. You'll k now when your body levels out and you give it some time and then do another cut using the scale only. DO NOT EYEBALL IT. It will mess up your system and you will not get it right (the correct dosage. K is tricky in that you need the exact amount if you yo-yo- you will feel terrible... Read my story or keep coming for help and support! Blessings!

Remember: The sooner you start to put this medication behind you - the sooner your body and your life will heal and improve.

Ah thanks. I actually looked it up and bought one, only to find out that it doesn't do small amounts.  >:(  I'm kind of stuck b/c I'm out of .25's already and not sure what to do for today.
