Hi maccknight

Welcome to Benzobuddies!  You will receive a lot of support and information here on withdrawing from benzodiazepines. These drugs should not be stopped abruptly!  Sorry your struggling,  It will get better.  The recommended withdrawal/tapering rate for those who have taken benzos for more than a short time (2/3 wks.) is 5 to 10% reductions every 10-14 days

To get started, the Ashton Manual is an authoritative  source on benzo withdrawal and recovery, written by an expert in the field.  It explains how the benzos affect the body and also lists symptoms that are caused by withdrawal or reduction .

“Professor Ashtons Manual”

Does reinstating a dose bring you back to where yo were before you cut the dose? I cut the daytime dose in half last Friday and on Monday the Doctor told me to reinstate the 0.5mg. Since then however I recovered to the same place. I take the tablets at 10.30am and 10.30pm and after about 6 hours start feeling terrible like I am in withdrawel. I can remember withdrawel from when I gave up Alcohol 11 years ago

50% is too big a reduction, these medications need a slow taper!  The rule of thumb is 5 to 10% reductions every 10-14 days.

Reinstating a dose doesn't  always work.  Tapering slow can help to minimize withdrawal effects. the aim is to try and keep symptoms manageable.

Hang in there, it should settle down.

Magrita.

I have read now that 50% is too big but as with everything to do this medication I was following the doctors advice even when I expressed my reservations I was assured everything would be fine. I think switching to diazepam would be a good idea from reading on here and might print out the Ashton Manual relevant parts and take it with me to see the Doc
