Is this a sustainable sleep pattern.

I'm sort of getting over my sleep maintenance insomnia and still have the sleep onset insomnia. Problem is this is occurring alot. So I mostly have nights where I sleep 0-2 hours and nights where I sleep 6-12 hours. I might miss 2 consecutive nights of sleep and on the third night get 12 hours. On average all together I get about 5. Is it ok to regularly miss 1 or 2 nights in a row as long as I'm getting a decent average? Here is an example of my sleep log

Thats a tough one.

At least you are getting some decent nights, just gotta focus on those.  Many in here would love that sleep log haha.

I gave up keeping any track of my sleep just because I was tired (no pun intended) of paying attention to my sleep.  It does and will get better slowly and at times randomly.

Keep doing your best and I am sure things will smooth out.

I usually get 6-7 hours of sleep now.  Last night I might have gotten closer to 8

Your pattern actually looks quite typical for many in withdrawal. I had periods that were quite similar (but I pretty much NEVER sleep more than 8 hours!). So I would say overall, you are doing very well. 5 hours average is really not horrible, and it should continue to improve. Just prepare for the nights you don't sleep, so it isn't a terrible experience.

I'm kind of numbed now to one or even two nights of no sleep. Before I used to freak out about it and this cost me my recovery. If I didn't freak out on day two with niacin and cannabis and then rescue doses and reinstatements on day 3,.. I could have been drug free and 4 months out instead of still on remeron and 1 month out from my last rescue dose.

Your mathematical average is 5.6 hours of sleep per night. This is very sustainable and will get better over time.

There's also a pattern here. You can see a rebound in one night after a 2-3 night stretch of sub-par sleep.

Current one week average is 5.1 hours. There was a time in March when I was using supplements and trying to jump from Remeron where I was averaging 3 hours. So this is much better but I still worry about the implications of each night of 0 sleep. A 0 night used to be this special occasion twice a year when I was cramming for a test in college and I thought it had to be extremely detrimental to my health and I had to go to sleep in the afternoon and get 16 hours of makeup sleep right away. Now I have one every week, and I'm still not tired the next day. It takes two 0 nights to make me tired. Before benzos I had ONE two night stretch due to forex trading and I was full blown hallucinating like I was on LSD. Now it's a regular occurence. What is this doing to my brain.

It looks like the Mg helped you somewhat, even though I can't think of why it would. Am I missing something? Magnesium good for sleep?

I googled it up, and Mg does seem to help sleep according to certain websites. It moves calcium out of the muscles and puts it back into the bloodstream where it can be mobilized elsewhere. That's just one example of how it helps. If it helped me, I would stay on it! That is, if it's not doing any harm in other ways.

Sleep is something that's precious, and insomniacs would walk to the top of Mount Whatever to find relief! Sometimes I suffer insomnia, especially if something important is coming up -- or just in general.

Of course, if you're sleeping 10 - 12 hrs. one night, you're naturally not going to get this the next night (few nights), because the over - sleeping subtracts from tiredness the next day. I would try to find a rhythm, where I slept 7 - 9 hrs. at least. I wouldn't oversleep, no matter how I feel because it's only going to mess with circadian rhythm and physiological processes.

Good idea to keep a sleep log / journal; it helps keeps your sleeping patterns and healing in perspective on how many hrs. you are getting.
