I know we 'heal' but will we ever be able to live a normal lifestyle again

After we heal, will we ever be able to drink alcohol, have lots of coffee, take supplements (like niacin, magnesium), take antibiotics, take corticosteroids, eat high glutamate foods, or train for a triathlon, etc. without worrying about revving up or kindling our old withdrawal? When will this be: 3 years? 10 years? Ever? I feel like I've been handed down a life sentence to be alienated from society and to lose my old lifestyle.

Hello. I think 'normal lifestyle' for each person after benzo is different and depends on each person.  Everyone says we will heal but sometimes I am still doubting it. But if I am to heal in the future, hopefully soon, my life will be so much different than before. I wasn't too bad at eating or lifestyle before but I know there will be many changes. One is that I will be very careful what I eat and what I put into my body. Second, exercise, sleep, eating healthy, meditations, all these positive life styles changes will be priority in my life for sure. I am already making changes right now. Of course I still would like to enjoy life on the weekends or on special occasion with friends and family but  I will definitely know my limit. I learn so much about nutrition and healthy life style as I am going through this and probably its the only benefit of going through this even though I wouldn't' want to go through this again.  But everyone is different and we know our bodies and mind the best and we make decisions that are best for us.

Yes, it'll happen. The human body is pretty amazing..I know it seems like it's punishing you right now, but I believe when it heals completely, we will feel better than we could have imagined and all of this will eventually become a distant memory. I'm about a week away from one year. I still have some frustrating and annoying symptoms (mostly mental stuff), but have been resuming my "normal" lifestyle for a good few months now. Caffeine and supplements daily. Alcohol occasionally. None of these things affect me either way. But I still know how you feel. It's such a long, grueling process.

I know exactly how you feel. I have exactly the same thoughts and worries. I wonder if I'll ever live free again, or if I will always have to be so careful about everything.

I think about this everyday... reading the success stories helps but I wonder if every person who wrote those stories was able to do the things they wanted to do without revving up their symptoms or worrying about it. Because I don't think I will be :(

Hello

Yes and allow me to use myself as an example. I am 15 months out and am pretty much back to normal now. What a relief...and wow..it's fantastic. I actually think I am better than before. I eat and I do not worry about it. I drink my coffee in the mornings and sometimes some tea in the afternoons. I don't take supplements except for Vitamin C. I used to have some beers but decided to eliminate this a few years ago, and have no desire for alcohol again. You know as they say...alcohol effects the same receptors as the benzos do. So...to answer your question...yes, you will be able to live a normal lifestyle again. Take it from me, I am back to normal and it keeps getting better everyday my friends. Just give it time.

If you read the success stories, many people rave about how happy they are over the fact that they are living normal lifestyles again. Many people have stated they can do everything they once did, and that they actually are living better lifestyles then before and are more happy and enjoy them more.  8)
