Difference between wave and kindling

[Ch...]

Recommended Posts

Other threads have seen explanations of what kindling is - can anyone explain what the difference between kindling and a wave?

Do you have to have finished your taper before you can kindle? Or is it something that can happen at any time during w/d??

Is it simply a more extreme version of a wave?

I am taking a wave to mean simply a flare up of s/x during w/d - do I have that right?

From what I understand kindling is when you stop taking a benzo then start taking it again. Like if you totally stopped for a period of time then started again. I don't think kindling is when you go down in dose say from 1mg a day to .5mg a day for a while then go backup. Waves are when your withdrawal symptoms increase. People say they are in a window when they feel OK or good but when things get bad that's a wave. No one knows what causes windows or waves for sure.. It's just part of the getting better process. So kindling and waves are totally differant things. Some people believe kindling isn't real. I do because it seems harder for people to getoff this crap when they've stopped before. I hope this helps.

I am curious as, after a long hold, and a long period of stability, my symptoms are ramping up. Primarily, fatigue.

I thought kindling was a severe ramping up of symptoms, post-withdrawal, while a wave was a ramping up of symptoms during w/d.

So I am still not clear whether kindling is basically a type of extreme wave, or a distinctly different process.

There's no clear cut way that symptoms come and go and their severity during this process. From what your describing you were stable and then had a ramp up of sxs's while tapering. That's purely tapering or some other life stressor your experiencing or new sxs's coming on. That's not uncommon at all. Sometimes that means slow down, do something different or even push through and it just has to get better in time...? The THEORY of kindling would apply if you had been on and off benzos for a duration of time multiple times and the brain is whacked out from being on and off and makes it harder to taper off all around. Its also just a theory and doesn't apply to everyone, myself included, who had been on benzos, off for years, then back on again. My second taper is easier than my first bc I'm more educated about how to do it and am going much slower. I see so many people worrying about kindling on here. What's the reason in putting so much negative attention into something you don't even know is real or that you have? Listen to your body when things get worse. Slow down, change diet, exercise, rest, start a daily taper....there are other things to blame first.

Thankyou for the information.

I am not putting negative attention on it, just trying to find out what ti is.

And now I feel reassured, thanks to the answers that I have received, that I am not going through this process.
