I've joined because I realised I was starting to get dependent on these  drugs and didn't realise how dangerous and addictive they are I've been taking them for just over 4 months not long I know but have a addictive personality I take Zopidem 5mg one a night, lorazepam half of 1mg at night or when needed also on gabapentin up to 600mg a day now.

I am 66 yrs old I have now been diagnosed as being Bi Polar have suffered with mental illness on and of since I was 26 have diabetes 2. Under active thyroid. Also take beta blockers and statins.

I feel these tablets arnt really helping as so drugged up in mornings and down I've started staying in bed till early afternoon and cry a lot my decision making skills are rubbish and I'm scared I am under local Mental Health unit but they are ok but not really helping.

Hello Mazzyg,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  You can encountered some of the negative effects of benzo use, foggy thinking and feeling drugged and hazy.  Frankly, it doesn't take long for a physical dependency to these types of drugs to develop, it can happen in as little time as 4 months.

Both lorazepam and zolpidem affect the braing in the same manner. Both drugs can cause dependency and other issues.  To make things easier on your central nervous system, it's important to taper just one drug at a time. Additionally, in terms of the lorazepam, it's best to stay on a steady dose and reduce from that.

In general, a slow taper can reduce withdrawal symptoms.  A reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

You've come to the right place for information and support as you journey to be benzo free. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
