Phenergan?

[ha...]

Recommended Posts

I took phenergan for two weeks during acute phase, but couldn't tell whether it was actually helping or not. I am currently in post acute. At this point my anxiety seems to be triggered mostly by negative thoughts. I have taken phenergan a few times to mellow me out. It doesn't really help the anxiety, but it does calm me down a little bit. I am just concerned about whether or not this is a good idea. I don't want to do anything that will hinder or prolong my recovery or cause new problems.

Probably not harmful to take every now and then.  Ashton does say it's safe. I took it for sleep until I felt like it wasn't doing much.

  • 2 weeks later...

Irishman72 and hanginontohope,

I was going to post on this topic, until I found this one.

If you don't mind me asking, what doses were each of you on, respectively?

Phenergan is known for its H1-histamine and 5-HT receptor blockade.

Promethazine (Phenergan) has mild neuroleptic properties, similar to AP's. But some AP's - in-turn - have anti-histamine properties, too.

Some people have success with these drugs because they effectively mask symptoms while fine tuning 5-HT serotonin receptors, loosening the grip of BWS.

I would turn to something like promethazine way before an AP, but I wouldn't be on it for longer than two months - maximum.

I was taking 50mg at a time to kind of chill me out. I heard it is not a good idea to take it for more than 2 weeks though. It also comes with its inherent risks like any other drug. Prolonged use can cause a withdrawal of its own so I try to take it sparingly.
