benadryl withdrawal, if anyone can help

I've been taking benadryl for about two years not, we a handful of breaks, and I know I need to stop. Drying me out and I know there are studies that it hurts the gray matter in your brain. If I don't sleep I feel so awful, so that's why I have been taking is so long.

I have been taking 50mg around 9 pm and I fall a sleep in about two hours.

Two nights ago I tried not taking any at all.. and at about 3:30 am while wide awake, I had a few body twitches. I read on a forum that someone reported the same thing. These body twitches were very specific and now I remember having them over a year ago when I tried to stop.

So that night I ended up taking just 25 mg and I slept for 3 and a half hours, feeling awful in the morning.

Last night I took 25 mg at 9 pm and fell a sleep at about 11 again, had lots of bad nightmares and this morning I have so much head pressure I feel like there's a vice on my head and that I have the flu or something. I have read people have had the same exact symptoms.

I plan on just keep on taking 25mg until I feel a little bit better... then I guess I will cut the 25 mg in half.

Can anyone advise me or let me know if they've done this before? Thanks in advance.

A sudden 50% cut in dose is likely to shock the system.

You might want to start with a 25% reduction, so 37.5mg - roughly.

I don't have any experience in this area, but most people will tell you to taper gradually.

You may want to find diphenhydramine (Benadryl) that is in tab form and scored into fourths. This way you can accurately make reductions.

I had this issue too when I tried stopping unisom. So what I did was slowly taper the 25mg pill over a couple months. I wouldn't cut it perfectly. I would just take quarters for a weeks drop another until I was off. The first week off was rough but then I was fine.

Now, I sleep on my own. It's wonderful!! I am dealing with broken sleep, but at least it's my broken sleep. I also don't have the nasty hangover the next day. It feels great in that sense. Now nerve pain/anxiety...that's a different story. Lol.

My advice is go slow and you will be just fine.  :smitten:
