I feel awful...thought i was getting better

I was one Librax for 1.5 to 2ish months 3 caps a day mostly. Went down to 2 on my own didnt really pay attention to how long unfortunatley....dropped to 1 for 2 weeks after talking to my GI who prescribed it. Been off of them for a little more than a week. Bad mental symptoms that i assume are anxiety/stress started  3 days after complete drop along with a myriad of physical symptoms....shakey/sweaty/numb hands....really bad indigestion/ibs, worse reflux ive ever dealt with....id go into more but typing is stressing me out at the moment.

Im getting weird sensations in my head right now along with upset stomach.....while my stomach was churning i felt a weird rush to my head almost like all of my blood was rushing there or something....any one else ever feel something like this...now im getting pressure on my temples while i type this....some ringing in ears....heart pumping hard....

I should also mention ive been on famotidine even longer than the librax

Anyone? :(

*Eye twitching a bit...can't relax....can ingesting something with MSG do this?

Sounds like a fairly full list of typical benzo withdrawal symptoms.  I'm really sorry that you're going thru this, but it will get better.  Try to keep doing life as best you can.  Try not to worry about how you feel.  You'll feel better - probably in a couple more weeks, and maybe sooner.  I'd invite you to resist the temptation to reinstate as that can set you back if you intend to stay off these pills (and given how quickly you became tolerant, it might be a good idea to stay away from them in the future).  Many people get really fearful that they'll never get better and head to the ER.  The ER can do nothing other than to give you the type of drug that created this mess for you in the first place.

So about all I can suggest is to hang in there and try to stay busy/active.  It'll get better.  Try to be patient and calm.

Thanks for the reply! Im definitely having issues staying active. Ive just been sitting around watching tv or pacing around my living room trying to figure out what i should eat next that wont make me feel like garbage. Ive just been eating rice, potato, and some form of meat....usually turkey. Sleeping whenever i can because its the one relief i have. I findnit hard to keep my mind off it when it seems like my head problems come right from how my stomach feels....though i guess it could be the other way around as well. The more i move, the more i feel the tension in my shoulders and chest and my stomach will start acting up regardless of whether ive eaten recently or not....rapidly losing weight.....

Im happy to hear that my issues from last night seem typical for withdrawal. It was such a different feeling from the usual issues id been going through.

It's definitely a feeling that makes a lot of people think that there's something seriously wrong with them.  But it's just benzo withdrawal.  Eat food.  Doesn't really make a lot of difference what you eat.  The shaking burns calories.  The heightened anxiety burns calories.  You want to be taking in more than usual amounts of food.  Just avoid alcohol and foods that contain a lot of MSG (those seem to rev people up even more).  I dropped weight for a couple of weeks, then started eating Clif Bars to add more calories to my diet which ultimately resulted in me gaining weight, but that's another story.

Decided to check out clif bars.....but the have soy protein isolate, a form Of msg i think...so i'm not to sure about them...how often did you eat them? Im kinda of desperate for any calories at this point.

I eat a couple of those bars a day.  It's my goto snack.  I'm not claiming that it's super healthy, but they usually scores a 'B' in nutritional rating systems.  So not too bad.

I'm not averse to soy products.  I drink soy milk daily.

Trying to eat decent portions...5 meals a day....eating doesnt usually make me feel imidiatly awful....but my forth meal today, potato and beef.....after the second or third bite i immediately started feeling off heart beat felt weaker too....i dont get it...i barely took a pretty weak benzo from what i hear....my taper might have been faster than it should have been but....should it really be this bad? Am i reaching the worst of my symptoms yet?

I did have some walnuts earlier which i felt like i had a reaction to then found out theyre crazy high in glutimate....but would that reaction last all day?

Some people have trouble with certain types of nuts.  I once had a reaction (hives) to cashews, but I ate a lot of them (and it only happened once).

A lot of people think that a small amount of benzo is a small amount of drug, but they're very potent drugs.  Yeah, some people take more than you did, but each person responds differently.  And the severity of the withdrawal really catches people off guard.  It's pretty intense for some people, and it can last a fairly long time (weeks to months).  I don't think it will last months for you, but possibly for a few more weeks.  It's impossible to know for sure.

Some people have issues with sugary and starchy foods giving them spikes in their pulse and blood pressure.  I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff, but I think potatoes have a moderately high glycemic index.  You might look for a starch with a lower index.  Sugars are more slowly released, so spikes in pulse and BP are probably reduced.

If you drink coffee of caffeinated beverages, you might want to reduce them for a while.  Some people quit caffeine entirely; I held out and drank one cup of coffee in the morning - damn the torpedoes!

I guess i'll stick to a mix of brown and white rice for a bit. Rice, meat, green bean or carrots....a banana...maybe some other fruits. I didnt know anything about the glycemic index! I had been wanting to try coconut water but sugar and all that, but its so low on the index so i feel better about trying it.

Beyond that i guess all i can do is hope that the intense part of the withdrawal ends quick. Thanks for the replies. They really help :D

I was reading through your conversation and thought i should pass along what helped me out personally...

i cut out all simple sugars that dont come from organic fruit, processed carbs like white rice and bread, i eat lean meat like chicken turkey and ham-bison for red meat, i eat kale chard and spinach salads daily, high omega-3 smoothies ( i.e. 2 whole bananas, 1 1/2 cup mixed berries, 1 cup spinach/kale/chard, 2 tbsp flax seed, 2 tbsp chia seed, 2 tbsp hemp seed, 3/4 cup almond/cashew milk, ice)

i eat a LOT of broccoli

i increased my protein intake by many times...my daily routine is wake up eat a protein shake (50g) and a kale/chard/spinach salad with ham and turkey. try to go for a walk or run if im not shaking too badly. ill then eat a chicken breast or three eggs with brown rice and broccoli. for snacks i eat a lot of cantaloupe and watermelon or even a pb&j with killer mikes bread natural peanut butter and organic jam. next meal will be chicken turkey breast or pork depending on what ive baked, sweet potato and broccoli, kale salad if im really hungry. next will be a smoothie and maybe a one scoop pretein shake before i go to the gym, and a full two scoop smoothie after. my post workout shake i drink in the tub with water as hot as i can stand. stretch and go to bed. every now and then i will make bison chilli or tacos, maybe once a week.

i try to drink a lot of water and am obsessed with r w knudsen super antioxidant and morning blend juices, i drink a bottle a day between the two.

obviously life happens throughout the day and our symptoms change daily so i adjust as needed but this is pretty much every day. the changes i have experienced are incredible, and may only work for me but completely changing my diet and excercise routine has made things tolerable. i truely hope you find a routine that can help in any way.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, 3 weeks since ive been off, almost 3 since the major symptoms showed up....doesnt feel like im getting better, just different. Still random pains all over....possible irregular heart beat? Hard to tell when you never paid attention to it before....anxiety is easier to recoginoze and deal with simply because im used to it now, so i started going back to work yesterday. Today i got weird headaches....they used to be really short pains that would fade quicks...but twice today i got weird lasting pain/pressure...first time after i woke up and was making breakfast, second a little while ago at work while i was eating and after easting my 4th meal...weird pressure in my left temple and i can see some bulging veins there. Stomach is still a mess....burning...general pains..weird pains under both sides of my ribs....my eyes get tired really easily when focusing on something....

I hope this ends soon....or at least becomes less intense. So i can stop worrying this is something else.

It's not anything else.  It's just withdrawal.  The less you worry about it being 'something else', the easier this will go for you.  I'm glad that you're going back to work.  It'll keep you busy/occupied/distracted which will help you ignore your symptoms.  Those symptoms are likely to continue to morph, but the overall intensity should begin to slowly wane soon.  The first month is often the roughest (it was for me).  Months 2 & 3 were a little better.  I know it seems like forever, but it will end in time.  Hang in there.

So i was at work, i had 2 days where i thought my mental stuff was getting better...tonight i have chest pains more frequent then usual....right before i'm about to get relieved and clock out.....vision gets like grainy....chest left chest/shoulder/arm go numb and heavy.....heart beat skyrockets...i couldn't not call 911....the intensity was a whole new level....i was convinced i was having a heart attack.....of course by the time they arrive the heaviness is gone. Vision is still off....like distortions in the corners of my sight heart rate back down...they don't even check it. Just ask if i want to go to the ER. I hate this. I never got that bad before. Heart rate up sure....pains sure...but that heaviness/numbness was terrifying.

  • 1 month later...

Back for an update.

2 months since ive been off Librax. Not as bad but still pretty bad. Ended up going to a chiropractor recently who was recommended to me for stomach issues. He ended up doing some weird test involving putting pressure on my arm while he made me do stuff. Told me i have  a dominant sympathetic nervous system. Wanted me to see him twice a week for more weird arm stuff and Put me on "neurocalm"...mixed results and mising a dose seemed to cause wd symptoms soooo probably gonna not take that anymore. Not sure if he's helping or just taking my money but he has helped SOMEONE apparently and its not like anyone else is trying anything. Hell, psychiatrists wont even answer my calls or return them after ive left a message.

I get that ppl are affected differently with these things....but such weak benzo for such a short time...

Should i really be feeling off at all after 2 months!?  At what point is it obviously something else?

Oh well. Just updating and venting a bit :\
