Primatene Mist Tablets for Chest tightness?

[Le...]

Recommended Posts

I just read a post by "Eric" who said he took Primatene Mist tablets to help with chest tightness when he was having trouble feeling like he couldn't get a good breath and get oxygen.  I was just wondering if anyone knows what is in those tablets and what the pros and cons would be of taking them for chest tightness.  I find chest tightness very difficult to deal with, though I have found a heating pad helps sometimes.  I'm just interested in what other people's thoughts are on Primatene Mist.  I don't want to take something that might cause more problems, but would like to know others' experiences with these tablets during withdrawal.  Thanks!

I tried it a couple weeks ago, it didn't relieve the chest tightness, really. Instead, it basically made me wired, so I didn't focus as much on my tight chest.

The lower I go on my taper now, the chest tightness seems to getting better & better. But it took awhile.

The active ingredient in Primatene is ephedrine. That is a mild form of speed. It does act as a bronchiodialator  which might help temporarily with breathing but it is not worth the risk to me. It puts added stress on the heart and will escalate insomnia.

Since I was referenced in the beginning of the post, I thought I'd try and clarify..

I didn't take primatene for chest tightness.  I took it because I wasn't able to breath one night 16 long months ago.  It was 1:30 am or so, snowing out, and laying in bed, I had trouble getting oxygen from breathing.  I tried to calm down but nothing worked, so as I didn't want to go the emergency room, I got up, put on some warm clothes and drove around the city until I found an all night Walgreens and bought the stuff, and it worked!

I was able to get back home and go to sleep.  I only needed it twice more, 6 months later..  for me, whatever the heck is in it, it was well worth it..

No problem. I was just trying to look for something that would help me and wondered what other people thought about my trying primatene since chest tightness is difficult for me to deal with. I don't think it will be a good option for the issues I'm having, but I'm glad it helped you for the issues you were dealing with.
