exercise and panic/sickness

I tried to do some very light exercises just for a few minutes and it has sent me into a crazy state of panic. Has anyone else experienced this? I used to be fit and lifted weights. I barely did anything with only a 10lb weight and it caused this.

I used to work out religiously 5 to 6 days a week before hitting tolerance.  Slowly my workouts declined and now that I am actually do a very slow taper I can barely do anything at all. If I do I feel like I have the flu, my muscles twitch way more than usual and my anxiety skyrockets. Its very depressing indeed. For me working out was a bit of mental therapy.  I still try to something to keep moving but compared to what I used to do it is embarrassing!

It can be really hard to stick to an exercise routine during withdrawals. I feel sick during and after my morning workout.

Thanks for all your replies. I wish I could exercise but I just can't. That little bit I did earlier today still has me feeling much worse.

exercise intolerance were the first signs of withdrawal for me. i was doing amazing at the gym 4-5 nights a week, getting size and strength.

withdrawal has reduced me to a twig, i cant workout, the adrenaline absolutely whacks me out into hellish symptoms.

ive lost over 15lbs of muscle, my shirts are all hanging off me. very discouraging as i looked to weightlifting to get healthy after i went sober from alcohol.

occasionally ive snuck in some light sets, some pushups, on nights ive felt a little better but I can never gain momentum

Same here....any type of weightlifting will set me back with bad sx. Im 14 days free, feeling better today Thankfully, so going to try and exercise slowly again at the 30 day mark. I used to lift 3x a week and really miss squats and deadlifts.

Hi Luke. Is that what happens when we workout? a raise in adrenaline? I worked out yesterday for just a few minutes and I still feel much worse and I was already very sick. My panic and confusion has been through the roof.

BeatBenzos - good for you being off and man I hope you get back into rhythm of weightlifting!

FreeWilly - Hello friend. Well my own personal experience was that the adrenaline from weightlifting was kinda "staying", like hours after I worked out I still had weightlifters high, and was all woozy, it would sometimes accompany me into the next day. that was long before i started tapering and was the first real signs of tolerance withdrawal. from what I understand, my adrenaline from weightlifting was being confused as flight or fight adrenaline, and any real exercise or activity that got the ole blood flowing would send me into a very uncomfortable haze, with wooziness, off balance, etc. Adrenaline of almost any kind was being misinterpreted by my brain as panic, and send me into uncomfortable land.

though i still suffer, this particular effect has calmed down at least a little as i taper.

in withdrawal now, i have to very careful, if Im not feeling that great, fatigued, especially woozy, etc etc, and I workout, i just get hammered with exhaustion and heightened symptoms. its very touchy. The days when im relatively better, i have managed some decent, albeit light sessions of working out, and feel the benefits. ive noticed the evenings ive managed to get in some exercise without pushing too much, its actually seemed to stave off some of the "morning horror" that so many of us go through.

its a cruel irony, that weightlifting and exercise, perhaps the greatest i could ever do to combat anxiety, have turned on me (and so many others). weightlifting was saving me from depression and clearing my head, and fighting anxiety all the while keeping me healthy. now im a couch potato, and can barely do a set of pushups most days without being floored by withdrawal effects.

and they say withdrawal isnt actually hurting you at all... well, sitting around, losing all the muscle i worked so hard for, getting a stomach and being physically crippled cant possibly be healthy. blaahhhhhhhh. CANT WAIT to get back into gym!!!!

hang in there everyone!

Thanks Luke. I feel the same. I lifted for years and now I've lost all that muscle. I sometimes feel tired just changing the sheets on my bed. It's aweful. My 10 year old nephew could kick my ass right now. Haha
