Hi folks

Ive been on Klonopin for 1.5 years. I was on 1mg per day now down to .5/.625. I want to stop the drug as i'm experiencing poor sleep quality and a 'dependency syndrome', ie I notice physical symptoms if I've not taken my scheduled dose, get preoccupied by the drug etc.

I came off once before after a year of use and had a real anxiety rebound. I was worse off than when I started, in other words. But benzos had really helped me in all sorts of ways; social confidence in particular. But i know long term use is a crazy idea and i've already got what feels like physical symptoms. I also take 20mgs of duloxetine (SNRI) and 50mgs for quetiapine (so called a-typical psychotic). Both prescribed when I came off Klonopin the first time. Ive no idea how they are interacting.

Currently, I want to start a new job, am keen on a woman etc (ie life's happening). I'm majorly freaked by how withdrawal is gonna impact me. There's no way to know until it happens of course. Super glad and keen to exchange experiences and stories ,good and bad, of getting benzo (and psychiatric drug) free.

Hello start 2,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!  It sounds like you have a lot of good things going on in your life.  Good for you for deciding to taper of klonopin, especially since you are experiencing some of the very common negative effects from long term use.  Yes, there is no way to predict how withdrawal will go but being benzo free and healed is amazing in my opinion, and well worth the effort.

You have reduced to .625 of klonopin. I don't know how fast your taper was, but generally a slow taper can minimize withdrawal symptoms. A reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

We'll be happy to support and encourage you while on your journey to be benzo free. Also, it's best to taper just one medication at a time, so I would suggested leaving the other meds in place until you finish the klonopin taper.  Please do ask questions, we're here to help.
