What exactly are heart palps?

So as my question is asked...What are heart palps?

I always thought it's the feeling of the heart either skipping a beat or beating a couple beats hard. But today I feel my heart beating hard in my left side of my neck. I also hear my heart in my left ear. It's different from my tinnitus. I am scared. My heart is pounding and feeling in my neck and hearing it is freaking me out. It's been almost an hour. I wasn't doing anything but sitting down watching TV.

Yes, before the ativan, I'd get an occasional palpitation, skipped beat, maybe once in a while after a meal. They can be a bit frightening, but are a normal occurrence foe the most part. What you describe is similar to the experience I had when I was trying to sleep and would hear my heartbeat in my ear when sleeping on one side. Also, I had this vibrating feeling where my heart was once. It's all gone away, and I don't get irregular heartbeats much at all. But yes, you could technically get a skipped beat, or a few skipped beats, or a double beat or a tripple beat. This of course leads to more panic which leads to more palps......

Usually, a beta blocker medication can help with those, but that's something between you and your Dr.

I have PVC's (skipped beats) - you can feel them and they are a little alarming. I've learned to ignore, ignore, ignore.

My resting heart rate is also always really high. Again, am ignoring, ignoring, ignoring.

I can also hear my heartbeat in my ear at times.

I've had a ton of tests and everything checks out, although I FEEL like I could keel over at any moment. After 4 fruitless ER visits (and one overnight stay for "monitoring" - I think they just did this for my benefit and thought I was actually just crazy), I'm not going to the ER again unless I'm unconscious on a stretcher.

A beta blocker can sometimes help, but really TIME and healing is what ultimately solves this issue for me.

So true...I have got to find a new family doctor. I hate the ER!!

That is very true. Personally, I wouldn't have taken a beta blocker if my blood pressure didn't start running pretty high all the time. Personally, with the weight gain after all these pills and a family history of high blood pressure and already being on BP meds, I didn't want to take any chances....

So far my blood pressure doesn't seem to be too bad. Loraz, we are the same. These darn pills put the weight on. It has made things worse and worse.

Yes, we're very similar in this regard. I've also noticed that a lot of people react in a very opposite way and end up losing weight and having a low blood pressure......
